Gen1 or gen2 turbo

Hi chaps

After having sold my 997 turbo tip gen1 in November , I've got an itch to get back into a 997 turbo again.

Wanted to ask you guys how would a manual gen2 with ceramics differ from gen1 tip??

Should I save the extra £15000ish and get back into a gen1 or is it worth getting into a gen2?

Can't speak as to the box, as I've never had a tip, but when I went to test drive a Gen2, I was blown away by the improvement practically everywhere. Gen1 has very little lag but Gen2 is better again,as well as being that bit more punchy. The ride is waaay more compliant, and although not a biggie to some, PCM3 is a huge advance over PCM2.

A lot argue against ceramics (I'm not going on track) but in my experience Gen1/steel vs Gen2/PCCB is a no contest, huge stopping ability (HUGE, trust me) no fade, no dust, my leg required a bit of re-calibration though.

I bought the car, love it....

If you're buying a manual go for a gen 1 and pocket the saving. Sure the gen 2 is better but not £15k better. Long term the mezger cars may well hold their value too. In your shoes I'd do something completely different like a fezza, macca or lambo now you've had a turbo. May be a Lichfield GTR?

I'm sorry but that kind of vague logic simply doesn't fly.

Gen1 manuals can be had from £36K (54,000miles 2006) to £63.5K (2,300miles 2008)

Which one of these is a Gen2 NOT worth £15K more than, because you can get a Gen2 for about the price of the late Gen1

The comparison you are making is apples and oranges, sure a 2009 Gen2 with 50k miles is not worth £15k more than a late 2008 Gen1 with 50K miles.
But most likely your £15,000 will be buying you three years newer, a good deal less miles AND a far better car.

My advice to the OP is, you know what a Gen1 is like, get a test drive or two in a Gen2, if it doesn't light your candle, move on, nothing lost.

So all things being equal if I could have an OPC warranty on the £36k car and it checks out its definitely the best buy... the 2008 car with 2000 miles is a terrible example because a, its over priced, b, its been for sale forever. Having said that at the right money say £50k I'd have that 2008 car over any gen 2in the classifieds. Gen 2 if you want PDK. Gen 1 if you want a manual IMO

PCM3 Bluetooth and a proper USB plug are big pluses to me, oh and those gen 2 wheels are much nicer

But surely the main reason would be PDK (I am not a fan of tips at all), so if you are going manual you don't need to spend the premium if you would rather not

Funny what is important - Bluetooth and USB wouldn't interest me one little bit! ;-)

After spending two days with a loan 991 with the PDK box, I would say this - as much as I like my Gen 1 tip, the PDK is the better box.

After all, you can get PCM3, etc in a late Gen 1..

It depends on what the car will be used for. As mine is my only car, PCM 3 was a must along with BT and the USB. I also wanted a manual and the premium for Gen 2s was at least 25k Euros for similar milage cars so I found a 2008 car with the facelift interior.

Just need to save up now and visit 9e.......

Oh, that's fine, I very, very seldom talk to anyone on the phone in a car and radio and cd's are still modern for me! ;-)
