Porsche 944 tappet noise.

Hello,
When starting from cold I occasionally had some tappet noise, not loud, that disappeared when the car was warm. I was told it was normal and due to the tappets being hydraulic.
Suddenly it has started making a loud noise, sounding like one tappet, that slowly disappears while warming up and is silent at operating temperature.
Can anybody please tell what this is due to, if there is any risk in running like this, and what needs doing. Is there a quick fix, such as a blast up the motorway?

It isn't the end of the world and you're unlikely to cause any damage. Probably best to factor in replacing them at some point anon though.
I get a similar thing on the 944 rally car, especially when I put it away very hot and leave it for a few days. I'm assuming that the oil is all at absolute peak temp and once shut down it drains back to the sump with gay abandon.
