GT3 VS GT2 Driving Exp + particular GT2
Discussion
Morning Gents,
Two things.
1. Anyone give me the lowdown on this:
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...
Anyone know the car?
It's been sitting around for a quite a while - just wondering. Looks nice enough.
Value?
2. I've had a few GT3s inc an RS and I think I know my way around the experience quite well but haven't driven a a GT2. How does the driving experience between that and the GT2 differ (aside from the obvious - performance)?
Is the 2 as much fun as the 3? Is the 997 GT2 variant as dangerous as the 996 GT2 was?

That car's been discussed and viewed by other pistonheads members, I'll try to dig out the thread. Two things.

The 2 is more fun than the 3 in my opinion as it's more of a handful to drive quickly, but that's purely my opinion, other opinions are available.

Is the 997 GT2 variant as dangerous as the 996 GT2 was?
I've owned both and in my experience no the 997 is not as dangerous as the 996. I managed to spin my 996 on track several times and had many moments on the road where it tried to send me into different lanes, all funny in hindsight but at the time was proper scary stuff. Contrary to popular belief it's not the nanny electronics that make the 997 safer, it's the superb setup it has from the factory, PSM will jump in only if you really balls it up, for my money that's a worthwhile bit of kit in a GT2. The 997 handles like a 997 GT3 but still retains the GT2ness with the insane torque and wave of boost, I could never own a GT3 after this car and have no intention of ever selling it as nothing I've driven comes close.
I hope that doesn't sound anti-996 as it's not supposed to, the 996 is a car that needs to be setup properly and driven with a bit more caution, I just prefer the slightly more usable 997.

Do dig out the other thread when you get a chance - will be much appreciated.
Very limited experience of the GT2 as I've only had it a couple of days, but it's much more of a "street car" if that makes sense. It feels slightly softer than the 3. Far less noise, both induction and mechanical, the steering is probalby a tad softer, but not soft, It doesn't rev like the 3 etc. But it's still distinctly a special 2wd Porsche, like the GT3.
It's quicker, but you drive on the torque rather than the revs, so it's a different feel in some ways. You may miss the revvy nature of the 3, but you benefit from the huge torque of the 2.

Congrats on the purchase... which one did you buy? It's quicker, but you drive on the torque rather than the revs, so it's a different feel in some ways. You may miss the revvy nature of the 3, but you benefit from the huge torque of the 2.
Guys - have GT2s got irregular service intervals?
You need to service a GT3 every year right? This grey/silver GT2 I linked to above has been serviced in 2010 @ 4000 miles and then the next again in 2012 @ 11,000 miles. But that's it.
Is this right by Porsche's own recommended intervals etc?

It says 12000 miles or 2 years in my service book. Mine's had a minor and major service, 2010 and 2012, it's due a minor service in 2014.You need to service a GT3 every year right? Did you get the over-rev data and operating hours?

Every 2 years or 20k miles. It's the same for both the 2 and 3. Some people service them annually out of choice and would be sensible if you are tracking it.You need to service a GT3 every year right? What's the spec and colour, any photo's?
Spec is pretty standard, it's a MY09 so has PCM3 and reverse sensors etc. This is post a Sunday clean.

Fantastic looking car anyway, enjoy.

^ This is a must to get detailed information on actual operating time, avg mph and time the car has been on the rev limiter or over it.Wasn't this an ex press car, or was that another silver car. They are all blurring into one!
