911 (996) to M5 (E60) or M6 (E63/E64)

I think I've got another itch to scratch, namely the V10 M5 or M6. Any 996/997 owners had one before/after their Porsche? I'd be interested in comparisons, whether it felt as special, and how the running costs compared...

i had and e60 m5 which i chopped in for my 996 turbo

in my opinion dont do it

they are a very very very capable car, fast as anything, but in no way do they feel special, it felt like any other 5 series to me

i hated the gear box in it as well, for the car to be any fun you had to give it m button and loads of right foot

Had an E60 M5 a few years back, chopped it in
for a 997.2 S.

It was fast, no doubt and the engine sounds great. But
you have to use all the revs, not particularly torquey.

Agree with previous post - the SMG gearbox is not great.

Head-up display was nice, don't know why that hasn't caught
on for other manufacturers.

Loads of space, big boot, very practical. The flipside is weight.
You could never forget how big and heavy it was. Brakes were
not much good, but this seems to be true of all M cars.

In short, get one - it's worth scratching that itch. But I suspect
you'll tire of it after a year or so.

When I got the 997 the difference in the driving experience was
massive. Not as powerful but just as fast and so much more
fun.

Test drove a couple when I sold my 996 a few years back.

Unless you need the seats and boot you will be dissapointed. Sure it's fast but you don't really feel or hear it, the SMG box is a joke but then its a different type of car so not fair to compare to a sports car.
