Porsche 964 Speedlines - stumbled across a set

Hi all,

Figured you would have some knowledge on these. I have a mint condition set of Porsche 964 Speedlines 18x8 and 18x10 what sort if value do these hold?

Not a lot at this age as they almost certainly need a refurb - next to worthless if they've become porous.

D90's are all the rage now.

I'd be doing you a favour at £80, maybe £100 the lot if they're N-marked matching tyres on there.

Possibly worth £1400-2500 depends on condition...

Thanks for the response, these are in very good condition. Had a full strip down and refurb.

Not having a wealth of [Porsche knowledge just wondered what they would be worth to someone?

Etched Speedline for Porsche? They are worth £4k plus if perfect, I think they were also used on the 993RS.

Unfortunately the speedline etching is no longer present on the dishes but that's easily done at a machine shop.

Have all the correct part numbers on the back of the wheels too - 965 / SL etc

I've seen sets on ebay.de for around GBP 5000 I thought that was crazy money?

I think it's a little difficult to place an accurate valuation on these wheels.

I've been following your Facebook 'Porsche 964 Club' thread and have also seen your eBay ad describing the wheels. They are certainly a nice set of wheels but I think if a Porsche owner bought them to put on a 964 Turbo they would want to invest some money in returning the wheels back to original/factory condition. Original, factory condition and correct wheels fetch good money as your research has shown.

Currently the centres are mirror polished and the rims are missing the 'Speedline for Porsche' etching. From the images you've posted I think they've also sadly been assembled incorrectly as the valve apertures aren't in the correct position relative to the centres/spokes. Your eBay advert says that one of them was cracked and has been welded, and another of them has very slight kerb damage. All things that one way or another will affect their value.

I know of only one person in the UK who regularly refurbishes and rebuilds these wheels properly – Adrian Rowlands. When I last enquired 3 or 4 years ago I think it was around £900 to fully refurbish a set of Speedlines (admittedly from well used condition) to original factory specification complete with 'Speedline for Porsche' etching. Rims normally will be either lacquered or anodised otherwise they quickly lose their polished finish.

Obviously your wheels have been freshly refurbished for your VW show car, so a strip down, repaint the centres, etch the rims, reseal and rebuild with new bolts (bolts are really only meant to be used once I believe) ought to cost less than the price mentioned above.

I think you've done the right thing by putting them on eBay. They're a nice set of wheels and ought to achieve a decent price but, as I've said, a difficult set of wheels to really accurately value. Good luck with the sale.

Adrian Rowlands? Why is that name familiar to me. Is he the guy who has a 964RS and the only person in the UK who can accurately engrave the 'Speedline for Porsche', back on?

Or is my man flu causing me to hallucinate.

Sounds like you're getting better Warren. Yes, Adrian knows his stuff when it comes to Speedlines. I guess anyone could etch the lettering onto the rims, but doing it right... right font, right position, right 'finish'... and the rest of the wheels to factory spec too. If they were my wheels I'd take them to Adrian, then either put them on a car, or sell them for the going rate for a set of A1 condition wheels.
