3.8 RS roll cage

Looking at a 3.8RS and its got a red cage. Anyone know if you can change the colour easily? Is it a case of taking it out and painting it or leaving it in situ and doing it?

The car is grey with red decals and ideally I'd like to make it all grey with black wheels. Leaving the cage red might look a bit odd?

Not done it but i'd imagine it needs to come out for an anywhere near decent job. You will lose the decal though but no biggie.

So the cage unbolts and isn't welded in? I'll ask JZM. If anyone else has any feedback I'm all ears (with not much in between apparently).

You can buy a black cage and fit it... might be easier and neater than painting the existing one. Cages are bolted in and come out easily enough. Cage is about £800

Cage is not welded in no. I know you aren't doing it but note buying a none cage car and fitting a cage is a pretty big job as the mounting points are not there by default (I know I was surprised too)

I understand they come out fairly easily. I guess the issue might be retaining originality (wheels, decals and cage), but that's your choice.

If the callipers are red, and the decals are staying, it might still look ok? Esp if the belts are Guards.

Did you replace your cage or was it always black? Can I get a black one off Porsche?

Those wheels really grabbed me. Stunning. Are they the correct size? Where did you get them. I was going to use a 997.2 GT3 as my base for the Manthey 4.4 but I might go RS now.

I'll keep the wheels. The decals and red bits you could always put back easily? Not that I'd want to.

In terms of the cage... my car had a black cage supplied/retrofitted by Porsche Reading so I know it's possible & have a good idea of costs & issues. As I say, if you buy a car that does not have a cage from the factory then the mounting points aren't there which really surprised me as I thought they would have been there under the carpet on basically all GT3s.

I have retained the original wheels too, and painted those silver in my case. Nothing is too difficult to put back to standard if you get one and I think these cars will hold their money really well. They are the last manual RS.

The decals... when you put them back on are a silly price, nearly £1000 if I recall from a chap I know who recently put them back on his car!! That's the same price I paid for a cage, lol... for stickers.

Yes. I nearly posted a pic of your car at the experience centre and asked whose it was. Stunning.

Mind if I basically copy it!? It'll be in Wilts so won't cram your style. Just to be clear, your car didn't have a cage at all and they retro fitted?

I'm going to do the manthey upgrade and exe tc suspension on this RS. What a weapon that'll be. I had an RS when it first came out, it was stunningly quick even then. I just love how much more front end they have than the GT3.

Last question, can you get the GT3 RS decals in black, for the rear bumper?
