Painting interior parts - Boxster

Whilst my 986 Boxster S is off the road I thought it would be a good chance to get some of the plastic parts of the interior sprayed which is being done at a bodyshop tomorrow.

I'm not sure how far to go! The car is yellow and so far I have decided to get the centre console, sport seat backs, stereo surround, speedo surround, ignition surround, drivers and passengers vents, interior mirror covers, 3 piece airbag strip all done in Yellow. But then I was thinking of getting the air vent slats done in silver along with the door bin lids and possibly the speaker grills but I think that might be taking it a bit far.

The car has full black leather and the standard Boxster S silver parts - Door handles etc, white dials and t also has a silver roll over bar.

Does any one have any photos of their painted interiors?

I would get the centre consol done and none of the rest

I would wrap the seat backs.

air vents etc looks nasty in body colour imo.

As to painting - wow, that's pretty brave. I agree with Mr. D - centre console, possibly seat backs at a pinch, and I'd stop there.

No worries.. it's a bass!
No advice for the paint job from here.. it's your car so you decide. I am about to paint just the center console on mine though.

As above, centre console only and possibly seat backs.

Seat backs could be a waste of money in a Boxster as you can't really see them.

Agree with this and exactly what I did on mine which is a brighter hue of blue. Much more and it get a bit too Halfords. i would only do it if you had a brighter colour exterior ie not black or lapis blue.

OP says the car's yellow - I think centre console can look good, but not air vent surrounds or stereo surround. Not sure though as not seen many/any 986s that have had this treatment. At the end of the day it sounds as if the car might be a keeper for the OP, so his choice I guess...only stipulation is we get photos afterwards.

it's so easy to have too much of a good thing ..

I would stick with center console, dash trim and door trim strips

and the roll over bar

Painted console is the single best interior mod you can do.

My 996tt had it and now by Spyder - don't think I'd have a Porsche without it now.

£150. Roll hoop is a more involved job but mine was already done from the factory.

Tend to agree, having looked at the photos on here. Definitely on my 'pimp' list.

Its quite hard to judge how far to go. Too far, and it will look like you have ram raided Halfords.

I would leave the black as it is, but its your car go for it!

This looks quite good. Just the centre console and stitching on the mats.

I went thru a similar phase with my 6TT. Did loads, speaker surrounds, air vents, dial surround, ignition barrel, centre console, nav surround etc etc so on and so forth.

Looked much better for it.

Basalt black with black leather. Not sure a bright colour would work on anything but centre console

Can I ask how you removed the seat backs?

Mine are light grey and getting a bit tatty so I want to remove them and give them a black respray.

Incidentally I covered all the bits off the door interior with black leather offcuts off Ebay and it's looks great, so that might be another option for you.

I have a car in Speed Yellow with the interior in black leather and like yours, most everything else in black too. The only highlights are the factory silver door pulls and details on the handbrake and gear lever, etc.

I bought an OE (factory issue) Speed Yellow painted centre console for mine, but I cant bring myself to get it fitted, so its still in its box. I don't know why, but I kind of like the simplicity and functionality of the back interior.

I also know a few folks that have had painted centre consoles and gone back to black which doesn't help my thinking process!

Just my 2p worth!

If you get that lot painted in yellow it will look like a tart's handbag.
