I am seriously considering adding a cab for a weekend/fun car.

Now have looked at a few 993 cabs online and seen a few I like, but just been browsing through 911Virgin stock and saw two nice looking 993 C2 but for same price there was a 997 C2S or £12k less a higher mileage 996 4CS Tip.

So what is best buy?
Considering depreciation, though would like to keep car.
Also running costs.

The prices should tell you something, but at the end of day do you prefer beer or lager, tea or coffee; it is highly subjective. Go and have a look and a chat.

Well prefer beer and coffee, but not at the same time!

Reason for asking was to help make general decision on model first, it was 993 I was thinking of initially.
Long way to call for a chat but I know what you mean, I am trying to find somewhere more local to look.
Will be calling at SCOM next week for a browse and a couple of test drives

Well personally I'd have a coupe over a 911 cab. Of the 3 I'd say the 997 looks best as a cab.

993 C2 - oldest, zero depreciation, but higher running costs.
996 C4S - low depreciation, lower running costs, but potential engine issues (as all n/a 996).
997 C2S - newest, higher depreciation, lower running costs, potential engine issues(as all n/a 997 Gen 1).

Have you considered a 964 or 3.2 Carrera cab. If it was a weekend car and had to be a 911 cab I'd go 3.2!

If you don't need 2+2 why not look at a Gen 2 Boxster S (designed as a convertible, newer, no engine issues)?

Hi, thanks for your thoughts.
I have thought of a 3.2, just finding one or right one.
As to coupe or Boxster. I have a 981 Cayman so wanted something different, hence edging more to older models.

Hi,
If you go down the 3.2 route, don't ignore the targa option; I had a targa supersport a few years back, and really enjoyed the draught free experience with the targa top off.
Good Luck.

I'd definately look at 964 or 3.2 Carrera if you've already got a modern Porsche.

3.2 Cab

3.2 Targa

964 Cab (Sold, but example)

Other option would be a Caterham (performance) or Mercedes 300 SL 1987-88 (relaxed).

If SCOM is local, then yes it is a damned long way to go. John always has a bit of everything in so would be an excellent place to start, and an opportunity to gaup at the eye candy biggrin

Yes SCOM is about 40 miles south of me.
I have been checking their website and have seen some of the cars, very nice.
Spotted a 964 Carrera Tiptronic there that I will have a drive of, not what I was looking for but give me some idea of how the cars go.

If you want a 993 I know someone who wants to sell an immaculate black/black cab - one of my clients in London even more obsessive than I was (am).
