Budget Boxster

I'm looking for a 2.7 986 Boxster and have a budget of £7k, can I purchase a good example for this price ?
Advice appreciated on purchasing a budget Boxster !

Have a look at the poverty pork thread in this section. For your budget you should also be able to pick up an early S which is pretty tidy.

It's almost an excessive amount, unless you plan to get the last 986 with all options possible, including gold plated calipers (I think I made it up...).

From reading the poverty pork thread, it looks like the best option is to spend around 5K
and then keep 2.5k in the bank for repairs / servicing ?

IMO whatever you spend you still need that £2.5k ready for nasty surprises.

Rough rule of thumb is to budget 5% of the new cost of any car each year for maintenance. With a bit of luck you'll come away with change.

Just because a car can be bought for Fiesta money doesn't mean it can be run for Fiesta money.

what would the cost be for a replacement engine ?

About £7k from what I understand. So if your engine went pop, you probably sell the car for parts rather than repair. At the price level you are looking to buy at, you'll probably find you'll get a good proportion of your original outlay back by doing this, so I'd consider this a relatively low risk proposition.
