OK, so after recently deciding that my 996 is going to be staying for a few years, I've decided to invest a few quid to make it the best it can be.
So here's the question - what should I do to my 996? It's a 2004 C4S tip, well specced with the main absences being PSE, heated seats and cruise. It's in good mechanical nick with recent rads and brakes.
If you were me, and you had (say) £5K to spend, what would you do?

that's the spirit John, it's your car, you love it and you want to improve it.. stay strong!
I'd go a Hartech engine plan combined with some quality suspension, quality exhaust & brake upgrades combined with a few splashes of interior carbon trim...?

At last, someone who understands!I'd go a Hartech engine plan combined with some quality suspension, quality exhaust & brake upgrades combined with a few splashes of interior carbon trim...?

Yup, exhaust mod is no.1 on the list, I think. Probably a bypass pipe rather than the full £2K PSE retrofit.
Don't know about the Hartech IMS thing. Seems sensible on one hand but on the other hand I feel pretty good about the engine. Under 60 K, uses no oil, no smoke, no weird noises, is a tip so maybe less likely to have been abused, etc. Touch wood!
What suspension upgrades are available? Will mine not already have M030, being a C4S?

Wow, great thread. Thanks for that.A lot of this depends on what you want to do with the car, fast road, cruiser, track? Other than cosmetic most changes will compromise an element of the driving experience, some good suggestions but depends what you want.
If you haven't done it yet, I'd start with driver training, something like CarLimits, you'll see more what the car is capable of, learn to get more from it and see where the limitations are; areas to improve. And unlike many other modifications, you can take it with you.
In addition to the things mentioned, poly bushes (if you don't want to change the suspension), braided hoses (good part way upgrade), full geo and corner weighting (not sure if the latter benefits on the road?) and a detail with one of the top guys, can make an enormous difference.
If you can find things to spend all of your budget on, buy a GoPro and take a road trip :-)

For exhaust - have you considered the Carnewal option? I bought my C4S in February and like yours, didnt have the PSE. A quick trip over the Belgium and I'm now a very happy bunny with a car that growls like it should have always done.
Other things I have done to mine are the Dension kit for iPhone integration and also have refurbed the wheels and fitted a turbo front splitter (my car has the factory aerokit and I found the front splitter protruded a little too much for my liking and the turbo one is much subtler).

I'm currently looking at exhaust options for my 996 - I'd almost decided that Carnewal was the way to go, but then I realised that as it's just the standard backbox modified, it was going to end up as rusty as my current exhaust.
I'm going to go for a stainless option; it'll cost more money, but look much better down the line.
