Just in the process of finishing off my 933 Carrera S which I am turning into something which is totally personal to me.

Made a couple of modifications to the look of the car such as weld-up the sunroof (it's red because the panel was cut from the roof of another 993), deleted wing mirrors, removal of fuel cap on nearside wing, etc.

Anyway, the car went off to the bodyshop for a re-spray (told it would take 2 weeks) and low and behold 5 weeks later it's only in primer and still not finished. I take the car back and in the meantime think that whilst it's still in primer I'll remove the rain gulleys.

So what I would like to know is can I just grind the rain gulleys off and then sand them smooth or is there more to it than that?

no you need to weld it too as there are several panels all folded together in the gutter.

A friend had it done on his 3.2 Sprint car, but it was done whilst the roof was off for fitment of a cage and replacement with a non-sunroof roof. I'm not sure of the detail of what's involved but it looked great, I'm sure you'll be pleased with the outcome. :-)

Nice project, one question, where is the fuel filler now then?

& what do you do without wing mirrors confused

I'm guessing you've gone to a race style central fill tank? As above, shaving the roof gutters is a bit more involved than just grinding & filling as they are structural. Used to be a signature of ruf back in the day.

I'd guess at using RUF-style quarter light mounted small mirrors?

Car has no wing mirrors but a 17" interior mirror so seeing what's coming up behind won't be a problem. Also deleted the side indicator repeaters, fuel filler cap to be centrally mounted.

Full cage, harnesses, etc all now fitted. Plexiglass windows being fitted tomorrow.

Car won't be to all tastes but this is my 4th 911 and I just didn't find my other cars personal enough.

Just got to decide on colour now. Thanks for all your feedback on the gulleys.

I've been using such a NASCAR-style mirror in the race car for a season and a half and I have to say I don't think it's a substitute for the side mirrors, which I still use a lot. It may be different in a 993, where visibility is much better than a hardtop-equipped Boxster but your brain won't be tuned in to where things actually are compared to where they appear to be in a big curved mirror - even reversing out of parking spaces will be confusing. It may be worth putting up with for getting the look you're after though and you could always fit the RUF style mirrors later.

I'm thinking a really deep purple colour would look good, something along the lines of BMW techno-violet:

Thanks for the feedback Goose. I suppose living without wing mirrors will be a bit of trial and error, just have to see how long it is until I end up putting at least a drivers side one on.

Nice suggestion on the colour!

To save a load of cutting and carving, you could just fit the Ruf `Aerodynamic Aid for A-Pillar` part no. Nr.: R64 500 559 00

Take a look at page 8 of their 911/930 section in the catalogue at...

The gutter removal was done by the factory for the 959, the fastest factory Porsche of its era.

In pictures for you.
