Oil level is overfilled - almost at 'max' with engine cold - shouldn't be an issue in cold weather but watch for smoke if its hot and in traffic.....

Looks nice though; good luck with the drive. Quite envious.......

Good work! That's nicely impulsive - just to add, had a nose on eBay, looks a good deal too wink

Have you bought your ticket yet? I've been looking at this recently and actually I think I'd possibly go by train - 1st class isn't too expensive and take out the faffing about at the airport and I expect time isn't too much worse either. Just not sure if you'd get a deal no a ticket this close.

Nice one! Hope you enjoy - I had my 964 up for sale last week, but realised I'd miss it too much and took it down. They are great cars.

Going to take it to Silverstone??

Cheers

Great looking car. Hope it still looks like this though. I saw that video when I was looking for my 964 over 2 years ago

Some friends just got back from doing a couple of days with RSR to prepare for (/qualify to be allowed to) racing there, they had a great time and no complaints despite the four figure per day cost. Sabine drove them to dinner in a minibus and said to one of them "Nick, grab the 'oh st' handles" when she was throwing it around a bit much and he needed something to hang on to smile

Hi POPE. Interesting comment you have posted there. I always keep the level at the max mark (Though my gauge doess seem to over read a little).

Where would you say the gauge should be when the motor is ticking over and cold?

Lastly if its overfilled, can that cause big problems ...... just that last service she came back with a very full reading oil gauge.

With the temp guage reading '9 o'clock' the level guage should be around '2 o'clock'.

Level should only be measured with the thermostat open - RF wing hot (oil cooler is behind headlight) with engine idling / car on level ground.

With the level as it appears in the video, if the engine got hot in traffic and then the car was driven around a fast sweeper then oil might be thrown up into the breather causing smoking from the exhaust.......

Also had the oil pes done on my wife's 964, total cost of £500 in parts :-(

However glad it's been done.

However majority do leak some oil from many various different places.

500 miles in one sitting; 2 toilet breaks, 1 fill up of fuel, a chicken sandwich, bag if crisps and a bottle of water and coffee later and having left at about 1.30pm made it home for 9pm.
Car pulls very strongly has a cat bypass so sounds very nice, could only find one bit of rust ; body needs a good mop and interior a good leather restore but it's mint, my perfect spec 964 if it was a coupe.
Will see how I enjoy the targa again, at 70mph it's a very slight whistle at 90 it's a bit more blowy but really not too bad at all actually very pleasantly surprised, had the roof off a couple of times in between rain.

Off this week for a good service and I think the high pressure pas pipe, either that or one of the oil lines in the rear arch is gone as she spits a few drops when parked.

Will let you know the damage,

It looks avert bit as shiny and clean as this

That was a very good value for money car. I have just purchased a c2 coupe ( 91 car, red/black,96k fmdsh) which I'm currently recomissioning after a period of storage, will be in classifieds in next few months.

When I bought my 1985 911 carrera last year- I drove from Kent to Glasgow for a decent drive, just kinda kept going, booked into a hotel for the night and then drove back the following day. Car was faultless. 964 should be able to do it without blinking if lookded after. only two tanks of fuel too

Metsta - I'm generally not too keen on the look of the targas but the one you've got looks very nice indeed!

Its funny how tastes change over time. The Targa was the ugly duckling of the 911 world just a few years back, especially the 964 compared to the 993.

Now I really am warming to them, and in some ways prefer the no nonsence way the targa top works on the 964..
