The Porsche extended warranty on my 2008 Cayman is due for renewal in October.

I intend to renew the mechanical warranty but am having second thoughts about the associated Porsche Assistance service.

When I called them out for an alarm issue last May I was told Porsche no longer have a dedicated service with the RAC; you get a standard recovery vehicle. As such, the person turning up does not have Porsche specific diagnostic software and, I assume, no specific Porsche parts (such as approved battery) carried in the breakdown vehicle.

In addition to this I don't need European cover.

All this makes me wonder if it is worth paying the premium for a premium service that may not actually exist anymore, or I don't need.

Looking around, the AA and RAC are similar in price to Porsche Assistance, even without the European cover. But Britannia (who I used to be with some years ago and found them OK) and Green Flag are quite a bit cheaper.

Anybody got experience of using other recovery services, either good or bad, with regard to their Porsche?

I use the AA which comes as part of an inclusive package through my bank. Its fairly basis cover so I pay an additional premium of around £50 a year for full cover including recovery and home start. I've only needed them once so far when my battery failed and they responded quite quickly and offered me a choice of different priced replacement batteries.
