Ferrari No Longer A Car Manufacturer
Discussion
I think it's in deference to a thread that was running elsewhere on here.
It's no joke though. I was invited to a media gathering at the Ferrari Factory a couple of weeks ago. Couldn't attend so a colleague went. Apparently, there were questions about Ferrari devaluing its brand with the amount of 'Ferrari' merchandise they now sell. They staunchly defended it, saying that there were many owners who wanted to proudly show their allegiance to the Ferrari badge, and those, worldwide, who could never afford a Ferrari but, for whom, the merchandised products was the nearest they could get.
It's all commercialism. Porsche, Ferrari, nothing is sacred.

And they now design and build engines for Maserati ....
However, I've also read that they're planning to build less cars next year - to keep them "exclusive" ..... which may mean that they haven't got the capacity to produce their current production and sufficient Maserati engines - but will no doubt help them charge more for the cars? In marketing terms I think this is called "super premium", where demand will increase to a point where it significantly exceeds supply and buyers will have to wait longer for orders; applying a "halo" to the used stock too.
Somewhat devalued by the naff merchandise that seems to be everywhere ...

do any of you chaps remember the tv show , american chopper ? they had a workshop building motorbikes . this was turned into a tv show .
on the back of this , they became multi millionaires . how did they do this ? by building choppers ? no , by selling tee shirts and baseball caps . easy work if you can get it . i think if ferrari stopped licensing products there are enough dodgy companies out there that would be happy to meet the dmand .
i agree a lot of the merchandise is tacky

At a recent analysis of market trends it was agreed that Ferrari make more Caps , pens , underwear and butt plugs than actual cars .
Hence Ferrari are now classified as a Cap , pen , underwear and butt plug manufacturer .
Porsche make more suv's than sports cars, so they can't be a sports car maker! Hence Ferrari are now classified as a Cap , pen , underwear and butt plug manufacturer .
