Hi all,

I've read a lot of threads about the C2 vs the C2S. Seems as though the 997.2 C2 has a weight saving vs the C2S (aluminium doors from the turbo) and is the lightest car from the 997 stable, excluding the GTx cars.

I've now driven both and the 997.2 C2 didn't necessarily feel underpowered. It actually felt like a fairly nimble car, good steering feel and felt very poised on the road. Not as sharp as the 987 Spyder we had, but they aren't really comparable. We decided we needed the practicality of a proper roof and the extra 2 seats, so it became a question of 997.2, either in C2 or C2S guise. Considered a GTS, but they still seem to be late £50s for a good example.

Am I mad to be happy with a nicely spec'd C2 ? (Eg. with PASM and PSE). Or is the 'S' version the more logical choice every day of the week? In terms of price, mid-late £30s would seem to buy a nice C2, whereas nice 'S' models of similar age/mileage seem to be c.£5-6k more.

Any thoughts ?

Thanks! Am leaning towards the C2. Just wasn't sure if I was missing some obvious reason to go for the S... From memory, the 997.2 C2 felt as quick as the 997.1 C2S i used to have.

I ended up in a gen2 c2 as opposed to a gen 1 c2s and havent regretted it one bit for a whole multitude of reasons, and there is only 10bhp difference so feels near as dammit the same for performance. For the last 2.5 yrs i have never once wished i had gone c2s for "extra performance" as would i then have got my perfect spec? Doubt it.

Mine is going up for sale in about 3 weeks time, the add is prepared, and its a gret spec. Let me know if you want details.

Cheers

I was in a similar position a few months back.
I bought a 997.2 S because one popped up at the right price whilst I was busy looking for a PASM specified manual C2, which were hard to find.
I was trying to find the simplest example of a 911 as my first, so I too was focused on the C2 and performance on the road (which is the only place I use it) was more than enough.
In fact my S I initially thought too fast to enjoy legally, still is really if I want to stretch it to the red line in anything other than 2nd.
Nice choice to have.

Thanks to you and Dave for the feedback. Interesting that many (including other posts on the internet) don't think that the power differential is material for road use. Does £4-5k seem like the right saving for the non-S ?

Seemed to be at the time but I don't want to look now and find out how much I've lost! I spent months on auto trader app and the porsche approved website, so I had a very good idea of what they were going for in the network and through specialists.

In the end bought from OPC as that deal at that time was cheaper than anything else on offer and I jumped on it but that's only because I spent more time on-line than I did at work!

Lol. Sounds exactly like my experience!! And I'm also about to buy through an OPC !

I found there were not too many 997.2 C2 models with PASM and PSE...
