A 1972 S will set you back £100,000 or close for a very good, fresh engine, rust free or rust eliminated example.

And that's rising quickly.

2.2s - the best start at 85K
2.4s - the best start at 95- 100K
First impact bumper cars were a step backwards and are not as popular - Carerra version ( basically an RS with impact bumpers) is though and fetching 60K plus for a good one.

Doubt it - more like half that, though some good ones advertised in the US recently for around $ 75,000 = close to £50K. But asking and getting ....

Early esses, however - at least good ones - are selling rapidly at, or around, 100K.

And here is a picture of the best 2.2s in the UK (though I am biased).

Are you thinking of the right car? The early IB esses were poor!

Here is one for a quarter of the price you reckon they are worth. Fill your boots!

Edited to add: Less power than a 2.2 s, let alone a 2.4 - and an engine that made the 996 look super reliable!

I guess I stand corrected, I thought they were more than that. Despite their reputation.

It's the Carrera you are thinking off I suspect. Very different car and under valued IMO.

I know of a UK RHD 2.7 Carrera for sale in Oz, no paper history but in good order for GBP 80k equiv.. check mobile.de for others. i'd say this is entry level price now for these 911/83 cars if original and matching numbers. The IB 's' model is more like 20-25k, being the equivalent of the pre IB 'E' model

Would you be interested in a LHD '74S? I know of a very original one recently imported from the US which may still be available. Re-commissioned mechanically and a quality repaint on a totally rust-free body by one of the most respected Porsche restorers in the business.
It is a lot cheaper than some have quoted on here - and if I had the garage space...
Let me know if you are interested and I'll see if it's still for sale.
