Thinking of getting a 10 year old 3.2 version. I'm not going to be doing starship miles, budget about £12000.

Apart from the normal potential issues with a 10 year old car, anything I should be looking out for?

Try a 4.5s or a 4.5 Turbo, if you are not going to do stellar mileage then the small reduction in fuel economy will be more than compensated for with the poweeeeeer
When I tried a 3.2 I thought, strewth this is so slow , compared to my Merc diesel, then tried a turbo and woweeeee That will do.

Buy the turbo.............you will not regret it, or the extra toys, and well within budget.

2nd vote for the turbo - especially if not doing big miles. With my 57 plate turbo I often see 15 mpg around town. Absolute max of 20 on the motorway cruise. BUT when you want to go, by god it goes.

I have a 4.5 and would have got a 3.2, you can't hoon in it too big, wide, tall, heavy, not that type of car. However would take a good condition turbo than average 3.2 as not much mpg different although servicing and insurance higher.

Key is condition and history.

Usual things coolant pipes, when coil packs changed, cardon shaft, electrics etc..

Through 911 Virgin I found a Cayenne S with 1 year Porsche Warranty, Full Porsche Service History(with receipts), recent large service with coolant pipes changed, tyres and brakes and to my knowledge almost every option.

Found a nice 04 4.5 S today at a dealer. He had to move a Ferrari and a Bentley GT for us, so not a back st chancer.. Absolutely mint, Driven by Miss Daiseys slower chauffeur, tan interior, blue paint, loads of extras,(Bose, sunroof, memory seats/steering wheel, satnav, keyless entry & go, seriously unmarked- looks like the boot has never been opened save for Harrods shopping,, full PSH, drives really well, 50k miles, £12000 - I've put a holding deposit down. Is that too much £££S or not?

We got the vibe that you get when walking up to a proper car that it was a goodun if you know what I mean...

Blue not popular for resale but car not much in first place so if you like go for it, my advice would get it inspected. 05 models onwards seem to have less issues.

To be honest, I think the blue looks so much smarter somehow than silver or black (Sorry silver or black drivers..), but its condition is impeccable, a credit to its single previous owner, which is the main criteria having made a decision on model.

I just dont want to get caned when I come to sell though, so buying cost is pretty important as well of course.

Does this price include a warranty?

Have a dig around on here for what to look out for, coolant pipes are a known weakness so budget £1k if they haven't been done, they will eventually fail some owners have had them done preventatively which can save other components and torque gaskets. Drive shafts worth checking and transfer box, kick the gas pedal down hard on the test drive after car has warmed up, any clonking will give the game away.

Sounds a good car, and the tan and blue go well together.

Price includes a 3 month comprehensive RAC warranty. When it say comprehensive though, I often wonder how comprehensive. Just a bit worried about the coolant pipes, dealer is getting in touch with Porsche Silverstone to find out. What sort of a job is it as a DIY?

I am still going to look for one once we move, after the pipes anything else to look for?
I am looking for a black one, about six years old maybe.

I know once the engine is warmed up, hit the gas pedal hard to see if you hear any banging from the rear.

When I bought mine, I knocked the price of the pipe repair off the asking price (private sale) as I checked through the history and there was no record of them being swapped out, although the torque seal had been done under OPC warranty. You can visually check but you need to remove trim etc and most owners aren't up for that from a potential buyer. Interestingly the OPC network didn't have any record of them being done when I rang them.....

However mine turned out to have been done, as I had them checked when it went in for a service so I had a result.

Could you agree a price if they have the pipes replaced or get a discount for you to have them done yourself?
