Hi Guys,

My farther and I are building a Porsche Cayman S to race in various championships. During a shakedown at Oulton Park we quickly found the limit of the standard brakes. In fact we got the calipers so hot they changed colour! We were running standard discs and PF pads, since we have added extra cooling and upgrading in pad materiel but are still not happy.

My question is, what caliper do people use on Caymans/911s?

We are planning on upgrading to two piece 350mm discs and GT3 6pots. However I believe we will need adapters making up.

Any comments and advice welcomed.

Pics of the build to be found here.

GT3 master cylinder
GT3 brake ducts/ 997TT rear ducts
Gyro disks or Brembo
PF08 pads or Pagid RS29's
Braided lines
ATE fluid.

Not sure you need bigger calipers on a Cayman if you have stripped it out to be lighter.

but you could fit the PCCB calipers and the larger gyro disks

Brembo also do a kit disk upgrade.

But you need to look at top mounts , RSS LCA or GT3 lower control LCA
maybe a better LSD
and also the rear toelinks twist, so better ones of those.
I guess if you run slicks, you need better bushing all round also.
And last better engine mounts.
I take you run decat etc so what remap do you run to work with that ?
Ti exhaust saves good weight also.
Cayman R ARB might be worth looking at.
3rd centre Rad.
18" O.Z. Alleggerita HLT wheels.
Cayman R doors or carbon doors.

What shocks are you running ?

how oem does it all have to be ?

I could go on :-)

as you can make 350BHp and get the weight to 1150kg I bet.

yummy

Before you do anything you need to look at the regs of the series you want to compete in. For example (and not that it applies to you) we (BRSCC Porsche) have to use standard callipers and standard discs, but have Mintex race pads - anything else is "illegal". I know that PCGB Championship and Britcar Production Sportcars are more open, but you still need to check before spending money.

Cheers for the reply.

A lot of what you have listed has already been done, the car was built to PCGB regs so its not as light as could be but it has been dipped and we are looking at taking more weight out of it. PCGB doesn't quite hit the spot in terms of regs for us at the moment so we are looking at going more GT4 Spec.

Brief spec:

GT3 LCAs and ARBs
KW Competition Suspension
Dipped
Custom exhaust
plated diff
PCGB Weight is 1300+ frown

We have plumped for more power and to do some endurance events so bigger stoppers are even more important than ever. Currently running PF08 pads after we cooked the PF01s. I read about people upgrading to Alcon so they must be some nice Brembo 6 pots tucked away somewhere?

997 Rear ducts is a good shout, we do race on slicks and we are not the only people finding the limitation of the standard calipers.

We meet again wink(Sam@BTM from boxa.net and pcgb forum)

PCGB dictate similar rules to BRSCC but replace mintex with Performance Friction.

Bricar is pretty free along with GT Cup, V de V etc.

Pads are free in PCGB (despite having to carry a PF logo on the car). Oulton Park is hard on brakes, Doni Silverstone Brands Combe and Croft are no problem for a Boxster S on standard discs & calipers.

You can make 380mm Brembo race discs fit inside 18" OZ Alleggerita wheels (just). Amazing stopping power smile

Hi Nick.
A while back you posted Re fitting 18" Oz Alleggerita over 380mm brakes. Any other details? where those normal 6pot GT3 calipers in the photos, what brand was that disc, and what width rim (ive got 8.5"), and any spacer.
Your about the only guy on any forum (6Speed, Rennlist etc) that says it can be done
