Well its finally arrived - news just out on Evo:

http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/289339/2013_pors... Newsletters&uid=35da14425c9b9c34368d4fdf9229ae47

What are peoples honest initial impressions ? Im not blown away by the looks but then the whole 991 gen has left me a bit unsure.

No doubt it will be an absolute weapon in either form and id wager strong money that the performance stats are the usual conservative estimates i.e. both cars will be well below 3's when launched off the line

Yeah i think your probably right - in the flesh the car will have a lot of presence and no doubt the 'hips' on it will give it huge stance. talking about too heavy does anyone know the official dry weight ?

Why make 2 models?

I have never understood why make the non s???

It makes no sense at all on a Turbo.

Nobody thinks i want a 911 Turbo but not one of those more powerful s models !!!!

The Turbo S is just over 1600KG, we won't really know until SportAuto stick both cars onto the weights.

Because it makes perfect commercial sense, remember, they want to make money, and as much of it as possible.

makes total sense, lower price = more choice = more volume, they do it on all the others model , not every potential new turbo purchaser has or wants to spend 140K.

If they only made the S it'd sound really expensive at £140k..... now they can say the 991 Turbo, just £120k (or whatever) vs. 458 (£170) MP4 (£170).

As a side note, I'd bet most of the S's go out at *around* £130k when you work out trade in values and GFV and whatever else.

458 = £200k, probably get 10% off that now though
MP4 = £200k, probably get 20% off

All prices above with options that normal / most customers would add on.

Buyers of new 911 turbos traditionally lose the most money of all Porsche buyers so i fail to see how a "budget" model helps.

This strikes a chord. I've only ever bought second hand cars and wouldn't buy new unless I had money to burn so am clearly not remotely close to the target demographic. But when a very lightly used MP4 can be had for the same as a new Turbo S (or less as it'll be September then), I'm not sure I could think of any reason to buy the Porsche unless I had 2 very small children.
