Hi,

Yesterday my key fob wouldn't open the door to my boxster, yet the red led light was lighting up. I unlocked the car with the key, which set off the alarm and when I started the ignition to stop the alarm, the central locking kicked in. I changed the battery but still no joy.

I then tried my spare key fob which worked fine - until I used it this evening, when the same thing happened with this fob. Is it a mad coincidence that both fobs have given up the ghost within 24 hours or is it more likely something to do with the car itself??

I would really appreciate some advice - thanks

Hi there not an uncommon occurrence. I'd suggest a trip to a local indie to investigate further. More than likely will need new remotes unless the alarm control unit has suffered water damage. I notice your in Swansea. Give Anthony or Neal at discount9 auto tech a call.

Dougie.

This happened on my 997 - save yourself the time and the money and try the following; unlock the car with the key and put said key into the ignition, or the alarm will go off. Turn the key in the ignition and at the same time press the unlock button on the fob. This should re-sync the key. Do it for the other key and hopefully all will be well

Have you left the car sitting for 5+ days? If so, the car remote central locking feature shuts down to save battery / security.
Insert key into the door lock. Turn key for 5 secs and then hold it there whilst pressing the open key on the fob. That should reactivate the system with the key.

KPE - no I use the car daily. I know its happened to me in the past when I haven't driven it for a week or so but as soon as I started the engine it would work fine from there on, unfortunately that's not the case this time.

Thanks for your reply.

No joy unfortunately. I tried resetting it by pressing the fob while turning the ignition, but still have the same problem.

I also turned the key in the lock for 5 seconds while pressing the unlock on the fob, but no joy with that either.

Looks like I may have to dip into my pockets!
