Hi all,

I keep my 993 in a lock up which has no power.

To stop the battery from going flat I would disconnect it when not using the car for over a week or so. I would then simply reconnect the battery and happily drive off...until recently.

Upon reconnection all hell broke loose with the alarm and flashing lights etc. The noise in the confined space + the fact that I'd hardly woken up almost made my skeleton leap out of my body.eek Anyway it's fine now but the problem is how to stop the battery from going flat when not using the car? A simple answer might be just to use the car at least once a week but that's not ideal during winter.

A trickle or solar charger won't work and I'm not keen on disconnecting the battery as before.

Anyone had this problem?

Cheers.

By another battery or booster that you can connect in parallel to give a much longer period of stability. The second battery could be taken indoors every weekend, say, to charge up.

Battery cut off switch inside the car to isolate the battery and stop it losing charge over time?

It does mean however, that you would have to rely on manual locking / unlocking. Plus, it would also switch off any security device fitted to the car which the insurance company might have something to say about if it were to go missing!

New garage with a plug socket and get a trickle charger I reckon! thumbup

I definitely like the idea of the second battery to connect and recharge every weekend. Maybe buy a couple of the cheapest lead acid batteries you can get and just go in every couple of weeks and switch them around, leaving the other on trickle in the house.

The OP says a solar charger won't work but doesn't state why.

Thanks for the response chapsthumbup

My lock up is a 15 minute walk from my house.

A solar power charger isn't suitable as it would be left exposed and unnattended.

Not an ideal situation but needs must for now.

I think that this is the solution.

had a very similar issue with my 993 c2s. Immobiliser and co would drain battery after 3 weeks. I had Porsche Reading to fit a battery isolator under the bonnet. Very neat instalation with red master key. Turn the key off to isolate battery. Stays months without being started and goes everytime. Well happy now.
