Finally put a deposit down on 911!!
Discussion
Finally, I have a deposit on a 911! 18 months of waiting for the right car to turn up and almost what I would have specced from new. Man maths has almost doubled my budget though, but the waiting and more saving/depreciation has helped!
The car was part exchanged against a Maclaren at Rybrooks in Warwick , and after spending an hour or so underneath it, and going over paintwork and interior (lying on the floor of a showroom with millions of pounds worth of cars and rich people walking around was a new experience for me, the receptionist was laughing at me!) it's as near perfect a used car as I have ever seen.
However, I am also realistic that I am no expert, and I still want to be diligent about spending so much money. The service guy at their service centre who preps and ppi's the cars, is a Porsche tech of 20+ years. And although the car had a major service at Porsche Swindon on the 15th April this year, with a full clean bill of health, they are still going through the whole car, another DME report (the one from last week shows rr 1 of 49 ignitions, rr 2 12 ignitions. Vehicle mileage checks from them and me all check out against operating hours) will be done, and the car has an open book to have anything done that OPC missed.
Bearing in mind all the prep that has been done, the pending prep to be done tomorrow, and the fact that I couldn't fault the car.... Should I do anything else, independent check etc??? I can't imagine a Maclaren and Rolls dealer would risk anything on their reputation by not making sure the car is as good as it can be, but its still a used car at the end of the day and I want to be sure!
I will also be getting 111 check and OPC warranty in 90 days. I chose not to take their own 12 month warranty, just the 3month and spend the 1k on the OPC one.

Secondly, what car is it then we can advise regarding the rev range recordings.
Finally, I would highly recommend an inspection by someone like Peter Morgan, it costs around £400 but its money well spent in my eyes.
Edited to add..... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=110... A previous thread on rev ranges.

It's the 997 turbo on their site. Meteor grey, adaptive sport seats, pccb, and loads more they forgot to tell me! Short shift (factory fitted) extended leather etc.... on a 56 plate.
I don't want to jinx this before I actually own it though!
Forgot to say, I checked with Porsche uk about warranty and they said as long as it passes 111 check range 1&2 are of no concern on 997.

Congratulations, you are going to absolutely love it !!
I also have a Gen 1 997 Turbo (56 plate) although mine has done 30k compared to yours with just 2.5k in 7 yrs (and 2 owners) !!
You basically got a brand new 100k car for 50% of the price
And here was me thinking I didn't use mine enough

Its going in for the engineer to run through the PDI tomorrow, just have to move the money about in a few accounts and then as long as nothing needs doing I should have it in a few days!
I will post pics up when its finally mine. I'm getting a bit scared now!! I remember driving my last M3 away from the dealer, it was like 'driving miss daisy' god knows what I am going to be like with this..

You will be the same...until you experience the acceleration for the first time. Then you will just laugh out loud and want to drive it again and again. You know what they say...."Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts, absolutely" I will post pics up when its finally mine. I'm getting a bit scared now!! Enjoy the car and congrats again !

I was told the last chap had quite a lot of cars in a collection and the cars (Inc the 997) were properly stored. He only completed 91 miles in the last three years, but did 300 in a week when he went down to Woking to spec his McLaren as he hadn't driven the car!I also have a Gen 1 997 Turbo (56 plate) although mine has done 30k compared to yours with just 2.5k in 7 yrs (and 2 owners) !!

If this is your first experience of owning a 'proper' car - you are on a Porsche forum! - the I would suggest a very simple test
Request that a condition of sale is that the car goes through the OPC inspection as a condition of the deal - and you renew the OPC warranty simultaneously?
I believe that can still be done - at the price, you could offer to pay for the inspection if it passes and they pay if it fails
With Warranty, you are probably pretty safe?
It is what I would look to do on that car for pure peace of mind; an inspection is one thing but a bumper to bumper warranty is hard to beat - even with their unreasonable servicing demands.
HTH?

I have to own the car for 90 days to put a OPC warranty on. The car is coming with a choice of 3 month or 12 month warranty. My idea, is take the 3 months (saves 1k), then get OPC inspected and warranted and the 1K should cover most of the cost. Dealers do have a pretty hefty responsibility within 3 months of sale, so I am told, and the dealer really is very high-end so I am pretty confident.

You can't when purchasing from a trader.
OP, car sounds fab. I think I'd be reasonably confident in buying that without further enquiry, McLaren dealer unlikely to be palming off a pup.
Can't you still insist on it going through OPC inspection? And then run it again for Warranty once owned?OP, car sounds fab. I think I'd be reasonably confident in buying that without further enquiry, McLaren dealer unlikely to be palming off a pup.
Forgot about the 90 day issue for Trader's sale.
Simultaneous is for private sales isn't it?
