Just read the latest copy of Evo and the Boxster S trumped both the Jaguar XF's (both 3 litre supercharged and 5 litre supercharged versions) round Bedford with an absolutely amazing time of 1 minute 24.2 seconds! To put that in perspective, that's 0.5 seconds faster than a Boxster Spyder and only 0.5 seconds slower than a 997 Turbo! Wow!

Even faster (at 1 minute 23.9 seconds) is the bog standard 991 Carerra Cabriolet(!) and for reference the F-type V6S clocked 1 minute 27.2 seconds and the V8S version was 2 seconds quicker than the V6S at 1:25.2 (or still a second slower than the Boxster)!! biggrinbiggrin

Not bad a all!

Think when they did the 997.1 C2S some years back it was 1:24.6

Driven the 981 Boxster S and thought it had better balance and marginally more grip than the 997.1 C2S but was slower in the straight bits. New Boxster is amazing and the new 991 even more capable again. Porsche doing a superb job!

2 seconds quicker than the V6S, or 2 seconds quicker than the Boxster S?

Agree completely with that summary, feels like it turns in harder, but the 911 gets more traction on the corner exits and uses it's extra power to build up more speed on the straights!

I remember the time for the C2S being just that - about the same as the Boxster Spyder and very respectable compared to the other cars on that venerable list ..... as even a 997.1 GT3 takes 1:23.1 smile

eek I'm glad it's gone to such a good home - you've probably done more miles in a week than I would have done in 3 months! biggrin

And nearly a second slower than the 997.1 C2S, Jaaaag still got some work to do on the handling for sure and the pricing! Still the F-Type looks immense! smile

Looks good, sounds good, but 200kg too heavy despite the extensive use of aluminium! I can only conclude that they've forgotten to take out the XJS chassis girders .... wink

It's just another thing to upset them! i think the right/wrong spec thing and pricing has been done to death - so this will be a welcome relief until we find out that the new Cayman goes even faster still! wink

It also came 3rd in their car of the year issue for 2012.

Behind the Exige S and the Pagani Huayra.

Beating the new 911 and the McLaren

It wasn't higher mainly due to one man's vote.

Best daily useable driver's car? I should cocoa.

faster than a spyder i doubt it the 981s has less power and more weight!although there would not be much in it.when are people going to learn that some cars are quicker on some tracks but slower on others!was the test done same day same driver etc
but the spyder is still a better looking car and draws more attention,i showed my wife a 981s boxster yesterday out on the road and she thought it was a mazda

Lok to me like Jaguar aimed at Porsche with the F-Type and hit Mercedes.
Big, powerful and heavy; not small, agile and quick.
