997.2 RS - Best Cage GoPro Mount Position?
Discussion
Per the title folks...looking for advise/suggestions.
I'm fitting my GoPro today and like Geo settings wondered what the best position - tried and tested/done before and only a number that will be optimal and work etc - is on the RS cage?
I would like a clear unfettered view to front, unimpeded by rear view mirror, perhaps with a glimpse of left hand side of my head and a bit steering wheel instruments. I imagine this is what you get as it has a wide lens anyway, so perhaps it's just a question of putting fit in middle of cage and getting right height on one of cross beams?
I have a later car so don't have the hole in the middle corss-member section - see pic.

Txs in advance.

i cant help with the fitting, but if you are an iphone user, be to sure check out harrys laptimer, you can control the gopro with it, and get some fantastic overlays.
This is recorded on the iphone, mounted to the dash, and a wide angle lense: http://www.youtube.com/user/jsy911

No experience with the RS but I do have a GoPro.
When I've mounted in my Elise it's always been on the back window. I found that I had to get it low so the mirror didn't block the view. From the photo of your car I'd probably put it on the crossmember on either side (either 10 O'Clock on 2 O'Clock by your photo) however this may be too high. The wide angle lens should give a view of what your hands are doing without too much of your body/head getting in the way.
You will need to play around with the mount extensions to get it into place. I would be tempted to get a bar made up the goes horizontally that you could mount it centrally ... I suspect you wouldn't actually need that though.
Hope that helps.

Which go pro? They have different lens angle settings.
Best for me has been medium wide and as close to the centre of the X on the roll bar as you can get. Also use a manfretto clamp and the gopro tripod mount. If you have the app then you can test the cam position which is useful. Tape the clamp to stop it rattling and buzzing.
Enjoy spa. Race circuit heaven on earth. ( apart from the nordschliefe)

I've used GoPro for some time and in my earlier 911 I mount it on the rollbar diagonal, about the height of the harness slots to see below the mirror. Depending on settings, I get a view as OP described but would prefer to project it further forward between the seats.
I've just bought a Hero3 as its got built in wifi and the GoPro app on my iPhone turns it into a monitor and controls the camera settings, shutter etc.

There are a lot of ways to answer this question, but it depends upon the mounting hardware that you have available. A Manfrotto super clamp with a ball head and a GoPro tripod mount is a great option. The clamp should be slightly off centre so that the lens is central in the car. This has the added benefit that you can insert spigots to move the camera even further forward if desired. I wouldn't recommend the GoPro roll bar mount for a forward facing mount as to get the ideal position you really need to use 4 links of armature - even when locked off tightly with a screwdriver this transmits an irritating amount of vibration in my experience. The roll bar mount is great for sidewards shots through your quarter windows though. The other option is to just use one of the adhesive mounts. I've not actually tried that on the cage but expect that you will need some arms to raise it a little (ideally the ones from the helmet kit as they are straight junctions rather than right angles thus not adding a lateral degree of freedom, but a couple of the normal ones ought to work if everything is tight).
Otherwise just put a stick on mount behind your rear view mirror (though that obviously loses any view of the cockpit).
Final tip - for in car use I'd recommend the skeleton/frame enclosures (depending on whether you have the 3 or an earlier hero as to which). That lets you power it while installed and gives a much better sound pickup than just the open back door on the case.
