Hi guys
Why does my exhaust on a st C2 have a nice little raspy bark when the engine is cold and then the parties over after a couple of minutes when it starts to warm up? Back to a quiet 911...
Cheers

The start up 'bark' is common to many sports cars l think & is to do with the engine/auto choke settings to accelerate the initial warming of engine fluids....Ferrari's & Astons are notorious for it by the way! smile

Could be a dodgy pipe join... When they leak they bark nicely when cold and as they get warm, they expand and re-seal!

Check all your exhaust bolts are present and correct between cats and silencers etc... Some of mine disappeared and I had this problem!

Autochoke I thought? And on some cars it opens the flaps in the exhaust to allow the higher flow like its up in the revs.

sounds like you need the bypass gundo hack done if you want it to sound like that all the time.

Best money I have spent on my C4.

The different sound on cold start is the air injection pump, combined with a different mixture setting. The aim being to get the exhaust gases as hot as possible, despite a richer cold start mixture, to warm up the cats.

My 996 turbo sounds lovely on a cold start, then after 30 seconds or so is almost deathly silent! Should be sorted once my new exhaust arrives though :-)

Depends if you can take the silencers off yourself as most fabricators could do it.

These guys are highly recommended in basildon and work on 911's every day. You would be able to do it while you wait.

I will be at the goodwood breakfast on the 5th May if your going and and want to listen to mine to see the difference if it helps

or pm me.
