Looking new tyres for my 996TT. Just noticed there are different N ratings, N1-4. What is the difference between the 1-4???
Anyone have any experience of Blackcircle tyres as they are very very good on price!

Cheers!

3.

The higher number is later, but only in that model or size. There may only be an N1 in some, for example. Each increment is an update to the tyre.

Blackcircles are a good outfit. You may want to try Camskill though as I often find them more competitive.

Last time I looked, the latest number on the rears for the 996 Turbo was N4 and the fronts N3

They may have brought out N4 in the front tyre sizes now but if not, I would go with N3 all round.

The advantage of going for the latest number is that earlier numbers are slowly phased out so you may not be able to find them if you just need two in future. A good example is that N1s are no longer made which means of the N1 fronts are fine but the rears need changing, you can't get matching N1s

So can you mix N rated tyres? I'm running to hide as I type this :-)

Isn't the N rating just an excuse to charge Porsche owners more for the same thing without an N on the side-wall? Once out of the warranty period does it really matter?

In the real world yes - but you'd be wise to have the same across an axle. In the murky world of Porsche warranty, no you can't - matching all round is the rule.

N rated PS2s in Porsche sizes are often cheaper than non rated PS2 in the same size so its a win win.

Has it ever been stated in writing by Porsche UK that N1 on front and N0 at rear will cause warranty problems?

Yes, I'm sure I have an email from Porsche, I'll check later.
I also have in writing that only the GT2RS and 997GT2 can mix the N ratings, N1 front and N2 rear.

If you have a local place that will fit your tyres for you (mine charges £5 for fitting, balancing and new valves per tyre) then Camskill is far cheaper than anywhere else including Event Tyres and Black Circles

Why only the GT2RS and 997 GT2 ?

The N2 rear tyre was developed for the GT2RS. After some emails back and forth to Porsche UK they sent me an email to say that the N2 tyre had "just" been approved for use on the 997GT2 as well. I was curious as to whether the N2 tyre was also OK for the GT3RS, they replied to say that it wasn't approved for that car.

I have ordered a couple of tyres from Camskill in the past but I was wondering, those that need 4 tyres do you still order from Camskill ?

How do you get them to a tyre place to have them fitted. With a couple in the past, I could throw them in the boot (not a 911) !

If you have a 'good understanding' with your local tyre place, Camskill will deliver them there directly.
