Auto motor und sport: 981 Cayman S vs 991 Carrera S
Discussion
"So shaking Porsche Cayman S with passionate zest on Penalty-throne. As a 3.4-liter mid-engine combination, now significantly more striking and austrainierter, he calls with 325 hp and 1432 kg weight fight out the Swabian sports car veteran: the 3.8-liter 911, 400 hp 1503 kg heavy and strong.
Then comes the Porsche Cayman on the offensive with its electronically controlled suspension that anfedert sensitive digested short bursts where the penalty nibbled briefly.
A Porsche Cayman is not - so fast and yet so few are safe. Which are located in fast straight a bit more relaxed, not as it bends most authentic in the small course. He has been easier, quirky and more willing."

Translation needed from someone please
The article summarises the 991 C2S as "fascinating and perfect - but expensive". It also credits it for being "the more accomplished" and "emotional" of the two cars - but the Cayman S is handed the crown for being "40,000 euros cheaper". So there we have it: the Cayman S is the poor man's 911... according to Auto Motor & Sport.

Personally I think the Cayman is a terriffic piece of kit. Would have gotten it myself but for the missing rear seats.

Or... why pay €40k for very little extra

If anything at all

There is a few of these cayman/boxster vs 991 reviews around, all pretty much say the same thing, with the odd exception the 991 is more exciting and the car they would choose, but it isn't 40k better .
Also noticed they have a 991c4s vs Audi r8 test In which they describe the 991 steering as 'perfect'.

I don't know why but I want to see a 991 in white like mine was, but with those crystal rear lights.
It'd probably be insanely naff, but quite different.
Saw one this morning in my commute in central London. Carrera 13 plate, white with white lights. Had them switched on so difficult to tell, actually switched on they looked ok but suspect when off you would have the "albino" look which am not a fan of...It'd probably be insanely naff, but quite different.
Much prefer my standard ones...
