A few nights ago I visited a relative who lives in a rural location about 20 miles from me. I know the road like the back of my hand and it's a favourite among petrol heads because of a fantastic mix of twisties and straights in a gorgeous location.

Being a little pushed for time I pressed on just a bit quicker than my usual style of driving. Having owned my current Porsche for about 9 months I feel very comfortable and secure with it's perticular handling characteristics which inpsired me to push the envelope just a bit further.

The road was quiet, the evening sun was pink, casting long shaddows over the rolling meadows and it lit up the nearby hills like red rock in oz. The sky was a breathtaking wash of pinks blues and orangey yellows. The smell of the car combined with the evening country air was intoxicating. Every input of the car was rewarding and the sense of being in control of this 3 dimensional work of art and hearing that distinctive metalic sound of the flat six was almost spiritual that night.

Maybe it's because we're emerging from another deep and dark winter or maybe it's just the prospect of using the car regularly again that did it for me but that night I was reminded of just how great these cars are.
