Hi All,
I've just sold my E92 M3 and have now decided to buy a Porsche 997 Turbo (07 - 08 plate). Porsche main dealer prices are a good few grand dearer but benefit from a Porsche warranty. However, there are many decent independent's that have good stock - can anyone recommend an aftermarket warranty that is better than the rest (or are they all not worth the paper they are printed on)? I have an Audi R8 and have used their extended warranty scheme for two years (which is sold by Mondial Assistance) and have to make a claim once last year and that was straight-forward enough.
Any help would be most appreciated.

If/when I was looking to warranty a Porker I'd only really consider Porsche's own scheme to be frank. You can buy from an OPC and get it thrown in, or buy from an indie and after 3 months pay Porsche to check and then warranty the car. Not sure what it costs for a Turbo, but a Cayman will cost about £1k including the 111 point check (so a Turbo will be more), though it's worth seeing if you can maybe get the check done for free.

I personally have only ever used OPCs, as, when the warranty cost for two years is factored in, I didn't find the respected indies to be that much, if any, cheaper.

Personally I wouldn't warrant a newer Porsche with anyone other than Porsche.

If it's older, Hartech or similar offer good warranties but the manufacturer's is watertight aside from those who think it should cover break pads for example!

I have had more than my money back most years to include silly rattles, glove box failure through to £1400 for the VTS tracker system failing.

When looking at OPC cars factor in the 2 years(I think) warranty that they give with used cars.
If you can get a better deal, then just add an OPC warranty after 3 months ownership

Thanks for the info. Checked on the Porsche UK website and they offer a Porsche Approved Standalone Warranty for which you must have owned the vehicle for at least 90 days. 111-point check is required at an OPC at a cost of £180 + VAT. "Carrera" 2-year stand alone warranty is £2395 inc VAT - not sure if this includes the Turbo models so will make a call and confirm.

Better hope it passes the 111 point check too. We're assuming the car will, but if it doesn't and you've been sold a lemon, Porsche won't warranty it (obviously).

If there's not much in it I'd stick to the OPC route. At least then you know it's passed the check and already got the warranty.

Not sure if it has been mentioned but OPC also sell a two-year warranty for a slight overall discount.

In addition, the car will need to have either a full OPC history or, if it have been serviced outside of the official network, it will need a full OPC service. If the car is showing rev range breaches in levels 3,4,5 and 6, they may refuse to cover the car or you will have to pay for compression tests to be carried out etc.

Thanks David for this information. Most of the 911's that I have seen on PH tend to have full OPC history but will keep that in mind when I start seeing physical cars (after the weekend hopefully)!
