The driving position in the above is the 993 Turbo is rubbish! The wheel is not adjustable and the seat is too high meaning I hit my knee on either the wheel or gear nob when going for a quick change.

Someone has suggested swapping the wheel for an RS version as it's smaller but I cant really see that making sufficient difference. Does anyone have any ideas of how to improve things and ideally, lift the steering wheel?

Cheers,

Daft question, but you have lowered the seat fully, yes?

It is height adjustable front and rear so have you tried lowering the front a little?

You actually want a left hand drive one if a decent driving position is the objective I fear.....

The standard High tower conversion is to swap the Steering wheel for something smaller but dont go for an RS wheel as you loose the air bag. Go for something like a 340mm Raid silberpfeil from Gert at Carnewal. 375 Euro+tax.

Thats as good as you are going to get unless you swap the seats over.

The pedal offset is an issue on all RHD air cooled so you can`t fix that unless you swap for LHD which obviously isn`t a solution.

Ha ha ha...yes lads I have lowered the seat. I even checked underneath to ensure there wasn't an old water bottle or perhaps a Michael Bolton cassette blocking the way. Sadly not!!

Looks like it the only way is a smaller wheel. Fingers crossed that works or i'm likely to end up in a ditch when going for a rapid change!!

Thanks all,

If you are around London way then you are welcome to check out the driving position in my 993. I`m 6ft 1 and replacing the wheel was the first mod I did. A very easy DIY mod.

Drop me a pm.

I had to conform to the car (LHD) because it would not conform me. My issue was with the pedals and seat - ultimately the seating position. I simply could not find a seating position I felt comfortable with. I eventually got used to it. I seem to have to twist my arse a bit for heel toe down shifts.

There are some amazing aftermarket wheel arrangements that can be made for the 993's. I hate to say it but it took me awhile to get use to placing it properly on the road and parking. Big hips rear narrow front.

Thats exactly my experience too. I end up angled towards the centre of the car! I often wonder if it would help twisting the seat 5 degrees or so anti clockwise.

I am used to it now though and just accept is part of the car.

Seems to me to be a porsche thing. At least for 981 / 996 s which I've had. Drove me nuts. So I now have an Audi for general driving!

Being 6ft5 tall I've always found it impossible to fit in the RHD air cooled cars... Thats why, at the time, I bought a LHD one, lucky they were cheaper too back then smile

LHD aircooled driving position is just about perfect for me ... RHD has way to much pedal offset & made my knees ache ... this is the main reason I sold my 993 & got into a 996 turbo which doesn't suffer this problem

I've noticed that the sports seat in my new turbo feel higher (even when fully down) than the comfort seats in my previous turbo. Not sure whether that's the way they're mounted or whether the comforts did in fact drop lower.
