Afternoon all

I will be going to view a GT3 next week and the seller is more than happy for me to have an inspection done on the car by an OPC but I was just wondering if anyone could tell me how comprehensive these checks are.

Do they simply kick the tyres or is it more in depth?
Is there anything I should ask them to check (specifically) when it comes to the GT3?

The car is still under warranty and this will transfer to me once I buy it so I want the OPC check.

Should I ask for formal written confirmation from the OPC that the warranty still stands?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

I got mine transferred ok you just fill in a form and get the previous owner to sign then towards the end of the warantee I had the 111 point check done to flush out any faults. Its comprehensive enough and allows you to continue under the OPC warantee once you've handed over your dosh. You should also get get the ECU readout as part of the inspection as well to ensure rev ranges have not been obliterated but I'm sure someone will come on soon to tell you all about that.
To be honest get an good independent to check it before you buy then enjoy and go for the 111 OPC check later, just my view and experience.

Hello, my 911 c2 was at my local OPC recently for a new key fob to be programmed and while it was there they carried out the 111 point check with mixed results to be honest.
As you may or may not know they carry out a green, amber, red marking system.
Thankfully, 90% of the results for mine were green. There were a couple of "red" issues namely -
1 - exhaust brackets corroded and unit in danger of falling off - cost to rectify by OPC £440 - Actual - both brackets either side needed replacing - done by my Indie for free and a new sleeve required £70 fitted!
2 - Oil leak on end cam cover - cost to rectify by OPC £650 - Actual - The leak was first reported on my service documents back in 2005 and has remained ever since - it must literally be less then a needlehead worth each month which has never left any in my drive and after speaking to my Indie is nothing at all to worry about.
3- They did report a tread depth of 4mm on my rears when actually a month later at my Service/MOT they were in fact "close to legal limit" at 1.8mm!
So in summary, while it is a useful tool I wouldnt necessary take it as Gospel so to speak.

Silverstone OPC did mine when I bought my RS. Seemed fairly in depth, you get a report detailing what they checked.

Thankfully mine only highlighted non standard brake cooling ducts (From a Gen2 RS) and Non N rated tyres (Supersports)

I had the 111 point check on a 997 RS, it was comprehensive enough to highlight tyres worn irregularly, RMS leak, non standard pads fitted other bits and the biggi, ECU tampered with....

I didn't buy the car on the strength of that report, cost £100 probably saved me thousands and a lot of heartbreak....

If the 111 point check is comprehensive enough for Porsche to allow a warranty to be placed on a car its good enough as you have the back-up if anything goes wrong.

Op - you could do what I did when I bought the 997 - had an 111 point check done and then had the seller buy another year of warranty, which we added to the agreed price. That way you avoid having to get the 111 point check done again when the warranty is due. I was happy buying a car with a 2 year warranty which was a good substitute for an OPC car but cheaper. If the OPC won't extend the warranty that tells you all you need to know....

Glenn - was that RMS leak on a 7.2? Just seeing how rare it is - I am aware of two.

Thats exactly what I am thinking. If the OPC can confirm in writing that the warranty still stands then that is great as if there are any (warranty covered) issues then I can take it back to them for resolution.

The car has ceramic brakes and apart from the 'check they are not chipped from the wheel dropping on them', are there are particular checks I should make ?

Thanks again everyone

Another one of those undetectable remaps, no doubt.
