I am somewhatbored today so thought I would try and start off another topic which usually results in bickering smile

1) What speed do you think you can safely drive (and often do so) over long distance in your car? e.g. when you go to work in the morning.
2) At what speed when overtaking do you think hmmm I really shouldn't push it any further than this as it would be dangerous.
3) What car do you drive?

This is based on it being a British motorway i.e. 70mph limit, on a clear dry day and not chock full of traffic

Exactly 52mph, normally in lane 2.

Like I said, I am bored smile

Besides I thought it would be interesting to see what some of the Turbo / GT3 drivers think is acceptable after seeing the different reactions to the video of the guy in his Turbo who got caught doing an iffy overtaking move past some cyclists!

In normal dry motorway conditions 95-100 is perfectly acceptable even on UK motorways.

This nonesense that speeding on motorways is comparable to violent crimes needs to stop. Just have a decently serviced car, dry road, light traffic and a minimum of driving skill which goes beyond putting car into D and drive off but includes braking and steering and modern cars can do those speeds without issues.

Agree tho this is a pointless post. But enough of the speeding crusade.

Place right foot on right pedal.
Push hard and hold.
Ease off shortly before your junction.
Rinse and repeat until you are forced trainwards.

Lol this isn't a speeding crusade, that's an interesting assumption to make!

On the basis that you are more likely to get tugged driving a Porsche, I'd say slightly less than others are doing!

A sensible answer coming up ........ 80mph.

Usually, unlikely to get pulled.

But on a dry clear day and no one else around, 90.

71mph (I prefer odd numbers for religious reasons) with Cruise control on and then watch everyone fly past at much higher speeds.

But when there's no traffic at all I could do... wink

In the CCX I try and keep it under 200.

In the Porsche around 85. On a motorway you'll never get pulled as there will always be some tit in a 1.8tdi Audi A4 doing a ton.

Well, however 'unlikely' it may be, what about the camera equiped van perched atop the motorway bridge doing his revenue gathering shift?

Your quoting's gone all to cock wink

Anyway, yes you're quite right.

But doesn't the ACPO take into account percentages and leeway with regards to speeds?

I have a friend who is a traffic cop and also trains others to do the job.

He said he would rarely pull anyone for driving on a dual carriageway/motorway at around 90MPH, as long as they weren't tailgating/on the phone/driving like a cock, but this is always down to each individual case, but as a rule, circa 90MPH is acceptable.

As long as he saw good driving, indicating your intentions and not being aggresive, he may even leave you alone at 99MPH! They're not all bad guys! smile

I do around 40,000 miles a year as a service engineer and usually set the cruise control to about 80-85.

I've noticed that if i'm on the A1 at 80-85 you seem to do lots of overtaking but on the M1 at that speed you hardly overtake anyone as there going a lot faster TBH.
