As per the subject line - what's involved in putting the 996 Turbo back in a standard body kit? Is it really expensive?

Front splitter and rear engine lid - that's it.

find someone who wants to do a swap would be my suggestion.

Nice one. Thanks. smile

Good to know that it's only two bits of kit. I didn't know if the side skirts were different as well.

IMO the engine lid is really ugly and the front splitter looks like it would catch on everything.

Side Skirts are the same, the front splitter should be classed as a consumable any way but you'll notice its a lot deeper than the standard one. I think the standard ones retail at about £150 +VAT

JZM reckon it's expensive to change the aero kit back to standard.

Presumably because of the active rear spoiler on the standard car, which I'd imagine isn't a cheap bit of kit to buy new.. But as others have said if you could get someone to swap, surely all the wiring etc is already in place?

Front lip spoiler is about 200 quid new (part number 9965053550001C)

Drop Vixpy a mail, he was looking for the kit and may swap. (he may have sold his car though)

Friend of mine paid nearing £1K to replace a broken 'lifter' so I suspect the rear spoiler isn't cheap.

^^^^Spot on, I just paid 200 quid inc VAT from OPC last week for a new front spoiler.
I wonder if the cars specced with aerokit from new have the loom and control unit for the rear spoiler, I reckon It will be a bit more involved than just plonking a different rear deck on and fitting a switch in the dash!
What about a GT2 rear deck, would that work?

All wiring etc is in place, its just the cost of the lid that makes it expensive...

They do, had mine repaired twice on my old 6T.

Is it significantly lower than the lip on the standard kit? It looks almost as low as the GT3 in the pictures I've seen.

When I had my X50 with aero, I just learned to reverse into all parking spaces! Never caught the front lip once that way smile

It's not the parking I'd be worried about. It's getting into and out of multi-storey car parks, going over speed bumps and other situations where you can't go in backwards.

I have speed bumps on my estate, also used it as a daily driver and didn't have any problems.

I think it looks worse than it is because of sticking out, but actual height I don't think is any different to standard.

..but 'sticking out' causes almost the same effect as 'lower than standard' when it comes to car parks/steep driveways/speed bumps etc

I suggest you try Prestige Salvage or Douglas Vally to see if they have a used part you can buy. Then get a bodyshop to paint/fit it.

When/if I am in a position to buy one I'll just go for one with the standard body kit.
