I have been playing on the configurator and at first thought that a GT3 with buckets and a roll cage looked da bomb!

Then I was thinking what would be the ideal option spec to protect value and minimise depreciation?

It is to spec it up as some form of uber-Carrera S for comfort and pace?

Or is it to go out and spec it as a hardcore racer and hope the character of the car matches this?

I guess what I am really saying is that having got over the initial excitement of the spec (yes I do like it) when I go to the configurator I am less and less excited the more I look. Where is the uniqueness that makes it a GT3? Limited but special colours, sports trim as standard. The fancy nature of the interior just doesn't fit the GT3 character.

Something to think about...

I was talking to an OPC salesman at the weekend, he said he just didn't get the car. A real juxtaposition between track car and road car (as you say, a 991s+). He had a specially good rant about the rear wheel steering and who crap like that should never be in a GT3!

Yes, select the option that says 'Manual Gearbox'.

Personally I think the GT3 should be spec'd more hardcore, to hopefully suit the car's character.
I'd be looking at :

Clubsport,
PCCBs,
some carbon inside,
guards red with possible clear rear lenses,

I went for all black or agate, buckets, clubsport. It does look good. Would be better to delete stuff from the interior.

I would go for red, white or yellow, clubsport, buckets, steels and the front lifting system. Everything else is subjective.

I would not be wary of the bucket seats at all, they are fantastic. I would go only go comfort if you are getting on a bit wink

Any machine that revs to 9000 rpm...and does 0-60 in 3.3s....ain't a prissy, nancy boy blowhard.

And Old Trout...suspect the custom colour options will appear once the initial order rush is over...

frankly I'd love to PTS in Mexico Blue...Signal Yellow (Notwithstanding its a no go)..some of the Greens on the other thread....or Signal Orange.

My current spec:

Definite: Clubsport, FAL, LEDS, 6 pt harnesses for the passenger (why should they suffer), All Leather, PCM, Sound Plus...coz i want to enjoy the drive to the Stelvio Pass as well as actually not get lost on the way...

Debating: White/Rhodium, PCCBs (Coz i still think they are more show than stop), Clear Lenses (look better with PCCBs, less red),...not much else.

I would personally wait for the RS if I was in the market for one.

I suspect that the GT3, won't be bought by the hard-core track user imo, as has been said, it'll be for those with a more focussed road experience in mind..

Therefore I'd spec it with comfort in mind, and buy a RS in minimal spec if you want the track focussed version, when it's released..

As with the 997 GT3s, I think there will be two levels of customer - those who want a road car with the practical/comfort toys, and those who want the more track focussed hardcore spec.

I wouldn't buy for 'depreciation' though. I'd spec the car I want to the optimum spec. I could justify for my needs.

991 S with GT3 sticker is more suitable alternative for most potential buyers smile

Collection from Leipzig (rather than Zuffenhausen) sounds pretty cool...Definitely a box I'd tick, otherwise I'd keep it pretty simple I think - white paint, bucket seats, and yellow seatbelts please.

An OPC salesman said that? A bit naughty!

Naughty, and negligent if he hasn't actually driven one.

Think I'd wait to see what the likes of Chris Harris have to say.

It's of academic relevance to me, but Porsche are very clever so I'm pretty sure it will be 'real world' fantastic.

I specced up my ideal version at the weekend - it would be a daily driver road car, so fitted out accordingly with far too many 'comfort' options to keep the true enthusists happy:

Agate Grey
Sports buckets
PCCBs
Yellow seat belts
Carbon interior
LED lights
Front lift system
Plus a few interior comfort options.

If it were me and I was concerned about protecting against depreciation beyond my own preferences for ownership (I would rather just choose what I want but anyway), I think my best bet would be to keep the spending on options to an absolute minimum.
That's the first place you'll take a hit on the depreciation front. A 991 GT3 with 10k worth of options is not worth 10k more than the "same" car without the options. It may be more desirable to an extent but not worth nearly as much as those options cost.

To be perfectly honest, ANY spec 991 GT3 would be desirable!

I would love one in any spec!

Also the price should not get too far away from the 997.GT3 for these owners are your best targets for selling on.
