Hi guys,
Just bought my first Porsche! A 911 52 plate. Pretty standard carrera. Now being only a little petrol headed lass I need some help.
I have just taken it out on its first journey, about 65 miles on the motorway and I noticed the oil gauge dropped from 5 to 3.5 ish after that journey.
Whilst I know I need to keep a check on oil with this car, can anyone tell me if that a normal drop?
Thanks!
X

The oil preasure fluctuates under load and at different oils temps, are you saying it fluctuates when measured ationary on a level surface on the pressure gauge or on the oil indicator? The oil sensors go bad pretty often on 996's
If you mean oil pressure gauge drops on throttle load etc and at idle then that's normal

Thanks for your reply. I have gone back down to the car and checked it after it has been sat level for a few hours and the gauge is back to where it was. Guess it was the very slow drive down the drive ramp that pushed the level down. Also I was a dope its a 54 plate so actually a 997!

Thanks again. I can sleep easy :-)

Normal.

When cold, it will read 5 at low or high revs.

When up to temp, it will drop as low as 1.5 at tickover. However, over 3500 revs it should read 3.5 or above.
