Sounds like crap to me. I can't see why a 99 996 would be different to a 98.

They may be confusing the change from 993 to 996 a year earlier?

If anything a '99 build would have a few detail and manufacturing improvements over a '98 model.

An independent Porsche Approved repairer told me that they always spotted subtle changes during the first couple of years of new model production.

Yes must admit, sounds a bit strange, but in his report he says that a 1998 year fetches much more than 1999?

From October 1998 they had clear lenses instead of orange and at some point, which may be later, they went to eGas electronic throttle, which means if you brake with your left foot the throttle is cut electronically, which I find a drawback. From 2001 they had an alcantara roof lining and 3 spoke steering wheel as standard and electronic bonnet, engine compartment release.

Actually it's completely true, the 98 996 is worth much more than the 99.... so if anybody has a later year 911 of any sort I will be very generous and swap my '98 with you.

You need to read it again, they are talking about the 996 vs 993.

Yes i agree , everything is made cheaper now, is the 993 a good car to live with every day ? as i know they fetch more money, but air cooled is not a good idea in general? its more collectors car than drivers car now i think?

Err NO, many a 993 is driven as a daily car, these are probably the most civil air cooled to use every day but can also get the pulse racing..............

Think the 3 spoke steering wheel came in much earlier than 2001 didn't it?

And don't think alcantara roofs were standard at any point in the 996 Carrera's lifetime (just the turbo).

Okay stupid question time

Where are the horrific quality interior parts on the 996?

Everybody bangs on about the plastics and painted bits, the magazine article talks about leather cracking or discolouring when just looking at it and the plastics wearing down etc - but I guess I must be blind as I am not spotting it!

Now whilst my 98 996 interior is admittedly junk compared to my brothers 2010 vantage, I can safely say that it looks a damn sight better than a new scirocco I was in recently (yes I know theres a huge difference in price) and is a lot nicer than my previous cars (Golf, Civic type R, Celica GT4 CS, MGF) which were also admittedly not exactly known for their interior quality.

I also remember over ten years ago getting given a ride in an older 911 turbo, it looked like a 930 / 964 and it was great performance wise but I thought to myself at the time that the interior was absolutely horrific - and I was comparing it to my bloody MGF at the time!

Anyway I would very much like people to point it out without getting all angry about it so I can then inspect the bits on my drive home tonight!
