981 to Monaco GP 2013 - Anyone going or advice on driving?
Discussion
Trying to organise myself and possibly Mrs lumpy to drive down to Monaco GP this year just for race day - Anyone going? Any advice offered as I have never driven to it before and was wondering if it is really worth driving etc. As we will be arriving lateish during the event ie Saturday morning i thought about camping as it is ultimately flexible. Any thoughts or advice greatly welcome and piss take or criticism also welcome as it is PH.

You just gotta do the Route Napoléon on the way there. (National Route 85)Wozy68 said:

You just gotta do the Route Napoléon on the way there. (National Route 85)Right - after discussing with Mrs Lumpy last night we have decided that we will be setting off from Derbyshire Friday early evening / afternoon, heading down thru eurotunnel and staying enroute somewhere with easy access to fast road / Autoroute on the Friday night ie Troyes Dijon area. This will give us a few hours driving with an early morning start Saturday morning so to take in some good roads nearer Monaco early afternoon Saturday - set up tent and enjoy some fine wine saturday evening and get some rest for the big day Sunday. Anyone recommend any good campsites near Monaco.
You would be better asking re camp sites on the French section.
Saturday will be VERY busy on the N85 before Monaco GP so you won't get the best drive on it. You also will not be driving your car into Monaco itself on the Sunday traffic is awfull on a normal day.....
On the return journey take in some Col roads, loads of great ones around

I have watched your vid a few times and that IS the way to roll......what day was it shot? The reason for the camping is we wont really get to use the hotel much as we will be late turning up and its just easier rolling up with the tent - parking along side and then slapping the bbq on.

Cruising at 100mph will result in a big fine , spoil your weekend. Also why not just get a cheap flight if you're just going for a long weekend.
You sound like Madad....lolThere is no fun in joining the masses and waiting around in an airport lounge for hours on end when you can have the roof down, wind in your hair and your favourite music as loud as you want it. It is an adventure all be it a very rushed one as we dont want to leave the kids for more than 3 nights with grandparents. I have persuaded the missus to go and she never leaves the kids for a night - but I did drop in the hint that it will be celebrity heaven and she bit...

It was shot on the morning of qualy so Saturday between 0530-0605. The track shuts at 0600ish on Saturday and 0700ish on Sunday before the race. We did Saturday as we did not intend to be fit to drive after Saturday night. We arrived from Turin the day before over the Col de Turini - which was challenging!!

Passing Reims I guess? You just gotta have your pic taken on the old GP circuit straight. If you haven't been before, its got to be done.
