Hi all. I'm curious to know from owners who've had both of these cars what the fuel economy is like in comparison? Some reviews i've read say the revised engine in the 2.9 gives "better economy" than the older engines but dont give any real world figures which back this up. Interested to hear peoples thoughts on this and running costs between the two in general!

Cheers.

I dont think you will find much in it to be fair. 2.7 and 2.9 you should get around 27 to 30mpg on the 3.2 and 3.4 i tend to get around 23 to 25mpg. These were all 987 models i have either owned or driven. As always it will depend on type of driving you do and how heavy your right foot is!!

I went from a 2.7 Boxster to a 2.9 Cayman. I would say economy is about the same. As are other running costs.

2.9 shows around 27 on OBC, mixed driving with few motorway runs. As soon as I do get on motorway or dual carriageway the range remaining shows a definite increase suggesting mpg improving. Most of my driving is on lanes to work, with kids, etc, caning it is reserved for special occasions smile

I had a 2.7 box and it did 24.3 around town and 29 on a run. My 2.9 box is a way better car all round and does 26.3 around town and 36 on a run. Both I ran for 20k miles each so fairly reliable figures. 2.9 is rms worry free too. No contest, latter car is better all round.
