Look at the price of2004 cars, that will give you an idea of the historic depreciation

+1, was going to say the same.

It's going to cost you money.....just buy it and enjoy it. In general, these cars are fun / indulgence, not an investment.

I owned a C2S coupe for 3 yrs which cost me approx 25k in depreciation.....was a great 3 years though biggrin

It's impossible to say for sure of course.

My guess would be between 20 and 22 private and a little less trade in depending on what its traded against of course.

In my experience. A lot of the loss is dealer mark up. If buying from dealer you will lose I would say around 5k instantly. So if you traded it in next day they would probably offer you 24-25. In two years. I would say another 5k 'real' depreciation.

I'll go with that estimate too. For what it's worth...

I wonder if that is just a little pessimistic perhaps ?

In the classified section of PH, 2003 996 Cabs seem to be around 18-23k depending upon mileage. You will have nearly 60k on the clock and the car will be 8 years old, and its a cab which is not everyones 'cup of tea'. On the plus side 997 engines have a better rep (at the moment anyway!) than 996s. So I am guessing your car would be about £21 - £24k private sale with a about £17-20k trade in.

18-23k for a 2003 996 cab? Hmmm. Sounds fairly strong i would say.

I think you would lose around £10-12K in depreciation and maybe a bit more if it is the basic 997 (ie not an S version). The good news though is that your insurance premium would go down also

I'd suggest the classified ads are examples of cars that haven't sold. Plenty of ambitiously priced 996s out there. I've just shifted a C2 996 and about to move on a C4S coupe and I'd like to believe they are worth more.

You'd think that would be the case, with the Carrera S being more desirable, but in fact it seems to have lost a bit more more from new than the base Carrera.
Original list prices were £65,198 and £58,578 respectively, but now that gap has narrowed with the S being about £2 k - £3 k more, which mean it's lost more (although a similar percentage loss).
