I've just had my 2004 986 valeted at home as it's a nice day.

The guy who does it noted the rear floor section under the passenger seat had substantial 'standing' water. It also fits as to why there was moisture on the windscreen recently

He used his wet vacuum to remover as much as possible of the water. We then started to look for causes and later happened to put the roof up into service position to clean the trim. He found 'water pool' in on the left hand side behind the door where the part of the roof mechanism folds into etc.

We compared it to the other side and realised the drain hole was obscured/blocked with leaf fall.

As I park on a slope, front in it looks like the water was filling this area up and overflowing into cabin down rear of engine wall.

All obvious in retrospect, but shared here for anyone who may be suffering similar.

Morale ?
- Check & clear drain holes after the autumn leaf fall
- Don't park nose in on a slope !?!

Now a good excuse to go for a blat, roof down in a clean car :-)

On a related note I saw that in this month's 911 & P world magazine there is an article on identifying and fixing leaks in modern Porsches. Didn't read it but seemed quite comprehensive.

Try and get it as dry as possible as expensive electrical gubbins live under the passenger seat!

This is a well-known 986 foible but as you found out an easy check.

Is that true in MY2004 986's as all I can find under my passenger seat are spare connectors (assume for one of the electric seat options)?

Otherwise all I've got is carpet unless its something ultra slim ?

Am I missing something ?

Anyway, enjoyed the drive...made the coast and back with top down :-)

Think I need to take a proper look at mine tomorrow - left it parked up for a few days while we've had some heavy rain only to find it dripping with condensation this morning!

Just to stress this there are front drains as well. Under the front trunk lid and under the panels on either side of the battery.

When I had my Boxster I had a similar issue with blocked plugs, nice sloshing noises before I worked out what was wrong
