I'm looking at a 996 3.4 with a GT3 body kit on it. Its for the missus and she doesn't like 'those wings' hehe
Can a GT3 rear wing be removed without leaving holes etc?

Thanks all!

It can but you'll obviously negate the 'zero lift' aero effects which may confer undesirable high speed handling. I doubt the insurance co. would be overjoyed either.

That said, speak to someone knowledgeable on this. Mike at Sports and Classic had extensive 996 GT3 knowledge.

Just to make it clear, it is NOT a GT3 car. Its a standard 1999 996 C4 with the body kit on it and that huge wing on the back..

What colour is it?

There's a guy on here that's just bought a silver 3.4 with full kit minus the wing.

There may be a deal to be done where he gets your engine lid and wing, then you get his standard engine lid and electric spoiler.

If yours is silver that is. smile

Hi, it will be a 996 with an aero kit fitted... The rear lid can be removed and a standard version fitted. Look on e at and get a good used one in same colour, roughly £300 should do it. Sell the rear wing and you will see a nice return!

You may need some wiring reversed for the spoiler control side as this would of been disabled when aero kit fitted.

a) Save the hassle and find one without the bodykit.

or

b) The rear wing is integral to the engine cover so you'd just need to buy a complete standard cover. There might be some wiring needed for pop-up spoiler. No holes to be filled.

or

c) As suggested, do a swap with someone with the same colour car who wants the spoiler. You'd make a few hundred quid out of the deal.

Thanks guys. Its black. Was just trying to find out before I go and see the car in question as I'm fairly certain
I'll get the shout I don't like that big wing thingy...
Its a birthday present so it would be a shame if she didn't like it.

Oh well. That other guy is called lamplighterson and his thread "New owner - 996 - hello" is down on page 10 now, but obviously if it involves paint etc for you and him it's probably a no go?

As said already then, buy an un-kitted standard car.
Having just searched for a 996 3.4 with aerokit for a mate I know they usually carry a premium and you can get a lovely, standard facelift (3.6) for the same money.

I'd do that in your position. Good luck.

You won't go far wrong with the selling dealer either. Good bunch down at 911 virgin.

Ooh, that looks sharp! Will no doubt be a good'un from there too.

I keep telling my lass to get a slush-box. Her and gearboxes don't mix. wink

ditto here re slushbox. She prefers LHD being Dutch but I'm not paying £5K+ more for a left hooker and there aren't many to choose from either.

That looks nice. Go and see it with her. You never know she might like it as it is. Never a good idea to second guess your other half in my experience!

Did you buy the 996? I'd be interested in swapping wings etc.

Just seen this thread, that's our old 996! Have a look in my profile. Had a few little problems when we bought it but now a well sorted example, suspension refresh at CG in '08, common issues such as MAF and coils etc all done before we moved it on to 911V. Looks as good as it did back then. smile

Bebs is away to collect this car today, see his other thread for this morning.

I think his wife has accepted the rear wing now though, so you may be out of luck Lamplighterson.

Looks like a lovely 996.

Picked up the car yesterday. Great drive. Seems a solid car which has appears to have been looked after well.
I get the whole 911 thing now. Very planted and surefooted, yet its a little gocart that's so easy to chuck around, even in London traffic.
My own car is a bit of a wasp in a glass jar but the 911 just takes it all in its stride without any fuss.
The missus is over the moon and went on her first drive last night - slush box is perfect for her.

To the previous owner - I'll drop you a PM for further info if you dont mind.
