Why do Porsche owners not acknowledge each other?
Discussion
Ok when I used to own an MGF (embarassing unreliable noddys car I know) I noticed drivers of the same car would wave at each other. I have noticed the same when driving a mini cooper s, celica gt4 - anything remotely "sporty" in nature in fact.
Yet I drive down the M1 every morning and pass various Porsche drivers and every single one of them makes a concerted effort not to notice each others cars for a marque which people are apparently passionate about to buy into in the first place.
The only time my 996 was noted by another porsche driver was a boxster flashing at me (possibly thinking i was in another boxster anyway because of the fried eggs and pumpkins) and a scowl from a cayman driver.
Is it because;
1) It's no longer one of them marques necessarily driven by enthusiasts?
2) I drive a 996 cab with fried eggs and pumpkins - scorned by boxster drivers who think i should have got a boxster if i wanted a cab, scorned by 996.1 drivers for not updating my lights, scorned 996.2 drivers for having fried eggs and a smaller engine, scorned by all other 911 drivers for not having round lights.
3) Porsche owners are a bit miserable really
4) All of the above?

Hole in one! I had a 911T in the '80's and always got a flash of lights or a cheery wave. Now in my 911 3.2 Carrera nothing unless the approaching Porsche is a classic (993 or earlier). I think it's fair to say that the majority of Porsches on the road now are newer and owned by newer people (wealthy nouveau rich people) who are interested more in flashing off their wealth than owning a nice car of anykind.

I rarely get acknowledged in the 996 if I wave. I have also noticed the aircooled ganag will not acknowledge watercooled owners by and large, every time I went out for a decent run in my car and with my friend in his 993 he got flashed and waved at by any aircooled owner while I generally got ignored.
I've developed a thick skin as a result.
Fair play, there are a lot of 996+ on the road but courtesy costs nothing..

1)
Whenever I'm in my car, it's a special event for me as its definitely not a daily driver (it's my 3rd child
). But I guess if someone drives one every day, they will lose that 'special occasion' sensation and hence wonder why some crazy fool coming the other way is waving / flashing at them for no apparent reason ! Hence, I don't bother any more either.
I think Lotus are still like Porsche used to be as every time we go out in my friends Exige, we always get a friendly wave back from fellow Lotus drivers. I even started waving at Lotus drivers myself (until I realised they probably just think I'm mad).
Sadly, I think Porsche have just become too mainstream, a victim of their own success perhaps ?? Guess if two drivers of a specialist variant (e.g. GT3 / GT2) came across each other, it would be a different story....guess not many non-enthusiasts drive those on a regular basis.

It's hardly courtesy to wave at random passers by because they happen to drive a similar car.I've developed a thick skin as a result.

Along comes another fellow enthusiast in his / her Porsche so you wave or acknowledge some how.....they completely ignore you so you either think something bad about them, about yourself or realise that actually, maybe these cars are just not that special to most people
