New Porc in basic specification. Should I?
Discussion
Hello to evryone.
I need an opinion on the following matter.
Never though about owning a Porsche thought always liked the look. And one sunny day accompanied my friend to local OPC just of curiosity when he wanted to test 911 Turbo.
Walked around and found myself sitting in new Boxter. Very much liked the look so went for test-drive. And was lost... In a couple of days went for another longer drive and had so much fun that since than completely obsessed by this car.
Actually a like more new Cayman, but I guess in terms of handling and fun it's more or less the same. So, made my configuration - full leather, electric seats, PDK, PCM, xenon etc. and got a quotation from the dealer which is first, beyond my limits and second, big enough to make me think about cars from another league, though not so fan.
I have some rules for myself about cars - never buy second-hand (anyway previous Cayman is not so nice and appealing to me) and never get a loan to buy a car (especially having one mortgage currently).
I studied all the videos, articles and this forum and getting more and more in love with this car, just can't stop thinking of it. So I thought,
may be I just should get a new Cayman in a basic specification - manual (I was always driving manual and really enjoy it), with basic seats and just adding climate-control (a must in our area) and may be sport-design steering wheel? I guess the core fun will be the same as with a fully-loaded car or not?
Just not sure if I will be sorry in some time not to wait for another year to be able to get a loaded car? OR in reality I can leave without most of my wished options?
My current car has a lot of them and I'm going to keep it anyway as a family car, but Cayman is meant to be my daily drive when can go alone (most of the time anyway).
SO, I'm in doubts...

For me it would depend if you're used to driving a car with a lot of toys fitted. If so, it'll always grate when you realise that your new Porsche doesn't have Option X, Y or Z.
However, there's appeal in a basic-spec model, and the driving I would imagine would be much the same as a fully-loaded car.

Ed, without a shred of doubt, stump up for the S. I've driven the roads in Cyprus and one thing you will always want is more grunt for the overtakes on the long stretches of road. The non-S car will feel underpowered with such long roads.
Dynamically however, either model will satisfy immeasurably and the mountain roads will come alive.

Thanks to everyone.
I calmed down a bit and thought once again.
Even though most of my options about look and comfort and the fun will be the same with the basic car, it's even worse. Everyday I will be getting into the car, which looks not as I dreamed but still being very expensive.
SO yes, I definitely have to wait a bit and get it exactly as I want it, especially considering that I want to keep it for a long time.
As to S model, I guess it's too much for public roads - even on my current cur I'm easily ahead of traffic all the time, it's just a matter of desire rather than car power. And it means that every single day I can be fined for a couple hundreds if I'm unlucky.
So, here for me not planning to race it or being able to drive on autobahns no reason to go for S and spend extra 15k, meaning to wait even more.
And to relief that itch I decided to go to Porsche Experience Precision course this summer.
They told they are getting new Caymans in June, so good opportunity to test and explore my future car. Anyway we don't have it here for free with purchase of a car, like you in UK.
Thanks again to all of you. Talking to knowing people helps a lot))).
