Importing a Porsche from the USA or Canada
Discussion
I'm curious to learn if anyone has actually done this?
I've been advised that import duty at 10% applies to the vehicle cost and shipping. VAT at 20% is also applied to the vehicle cost, shipping cost and import duty. All in all quite a lot of additional cost.
HMRC have advised that even though it's a Porsche and was manufactured within the EC both duty and VAT do do still apply. A bit like taking two bites at the cherry if you ask me!
If anyone has actual experience of the process and can offer advice I'd be pleased to hear from them.

If its a classic, then a 5% rate applies.

There is such a thing as "returned goods relief" where importing EU manufactured products attracts relief from the 10% duty, but I believe it was changed a while ago to only apply when something's a maximum of 3 years old.
It's proably going to be 15 or 16 years old so well outside the 3 year cut-off. shoestring7 said:

What's the definition of a classic? It'll probably be a 993!
