Hi,

I have seen 2 examples from OPC's

1) Gen 1 2009, Manual - £60k
2) Gen 2 2010, PDK - £75k

I'm struggling to decide which one makes the most sense. The manual I'm sure will be great, but the 1st gear doesn't appeal. PDK would probably suit me better and obviously much quicker. The 2009 has the new PCM, so that's good. Would you pay £15k more for the Gen 2?!

If you dont intend to go hardcore with the tuning then gen 2 is nice smile

Yes, all day long but that's just me. I have owned both Gen 2 PDK and a Gen 1 Manual and they are quite different cars. If you are into the whole "Mezger" thing and like manual cars, then the Gen1 (with the later PCM) is pretty much the perfect car. Still, PDK aside, the ride, steering and handling of the Gen2 is miles ahead of the Gen1 IMHO. I know people go on about the steering feel of the Gen 1 but I found it a bit "light" around the centre (could have been the skinny steering wheel) and the handling was not as good (again in my view). The Gen1 felt like a less sophisticated car if you get my meaning.

Still by just about any standard, they are both amazing cars.

Okay, thanks, I suspct that's how I will feel too after a test drive, but would you pay £15k extra for all of that?

Yes. When you sell the car (as you inevitably will once the itch is scratched), you will get £8-10k of it back.

Whoaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!

Just test drove the PDK and my first Turbo experience ( a little hair raising in London ) especially when in Sports Plus smile)

Absolutely insane, how can you ever go back from that, it's like some sort of rocket ship, the grip is AMAZING. Needless to say, I think my bank balance is about to take a hit!

You are nearly there. All you need now is a test drive of a 997.2 Turbo S and the decision will be made.

IMO the Gen 2 is a step change up from the Gen 1, which was already a great car.

But, PDK aside, there are quite a few other options and refinements (standard on the 'S') that contribute to the improvements.

Nice apart from the 645. I found the gen 2 turbo quite uneventful to drive but still want one;)

Agreed - 645 was a real low point and the most unreliable car to date. 458 was simply stunning to drive and the Lamborghini showing its age

I have stories about my cousins old 645...Murci is huge cant really do much with it on the street. Turbo gen 2 is great all rounder and one of those cars that will grow on you.

Not having owned a 997 turbo before, I went for a Gen 1 with the updated PCM3.
The way I looked at it was that it was about 15k cheaper, and if I decided I liked the turbo I could change it in 12 months time for a Gen2.
If you have a go in a gen1, you will still consider it to be a great car and save 15k!
