Porsche 996 backfire
Discussion
I have a 1997 996 which until today has been great.
I went to start it and there was a really loud backfire.
The car will start but idles really rough and continually backfires,if I try and rev the engine it will increase slightly then die.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The engine is sick. May be a bit of a fever (likely) or it may be terminal (unlikely).I went to start it and there was a really loud backfire.

Regardless it isn't a good idea to run an engine that reads as sick as you describe.
Best to avoid running the engine and instead get the car to a pro tech for his expert diagnosis.

I am in essex.
there was one large backfire when starting and now a number of small backfires when ticking over.
it ticks over as if not firing on all cylinders.
Can you get the car to these guys? If not, they can offer a collection service from you.there was one large backfire when starting and now a number of small backfires when ticking over.
