Hi All,

Jeez I've had a hard time joining this forum, I had given up all hope as all my registered e-mail addresses kept bombing me out. Anyway Hello and my name is David Mann.

I'd like to explain my background and dilemmas.

Coming from a past Audi background i.e 3 x Audi S3's previously & 2008 Cayman S Basalt Black. I bought the Cayman R ( Peridot Green ) from Cameron Sports cars, car was originally from Porsche Bristol. I bought with 2000 miles on and I have just gone past 6000.
It's like new, had a oil change at 2500 at Porsche Bolton and I cover the seats etc to protect from creasing.

Anyway I will get to the point, I am the guy who has had it for sale on Piston heads and removes it after so long. Here is my reasoning and I'm not to sure what to do. I LOVE the car, seriously it's awesome but it spends too much time in the garage, Thus as above I am constantly changing my mind and I really don't know what to do. The car is that good is often feels wasted on UK roads, I am over on Mallorca at the moment and the roads are brilliant and its SUNNY, hence today my feelings are KEEP the CR!!!.

My other reason for possibly selling was I am training to be a commercial pilot, and often my head says sell but i CAN'T :-)

My Spec:-
Cayman R Peridot Green Manual
19" Spyder Alloys in Basalt Black
Alcantara Sport Design Steering Wheel
Sport Chrono
CDR-30 / Standard sound system
Bucket Seats

Currently debating on a PSE / Aftermarket Fabspeed option.

Just thought I had better introduce myself and car.

One other question, does my CR have 2 or 3 years warranty as standard?

David Mann.

Hello and welcome to the forum. I remember the car being advertised at Cameron, a very low price at the time and it didn't hang around for long before you bought it. I bought my first 911 from Ian, good guys to do business with.

If you do sell it I think it will be one of those, "why did I do that?" topics in the future. Not sure on the warranty, I think you had to pay extra for the 3rd year. They do need the sports exhaust or an aftermarket one if you are going to come out of the OPC warranty scheme.

Hi David,

You are not alone in your "do I sell or do i keep" dilemma.

Even if they don't get much use these type of cars always put a smail on the face, even if its just when the garage door is opened.

Coming from a string of hatches i've settled on a Porsche and really can't see where to go next.

Keep it.

I think they come with 2 years warranty standard, the 3rd year an option when buying new.

Regards,

Matt

David,

I remember congratulating you on the purchase. whether it is 2 or 3 years of warranty depends on whether the original buyer paid for the 3rd year warranty.

To me, your car is lovely in its spec and it's just as porsche intended. Glad you are intending to keep it.

Ar right, I wasn't sure on the warranty. I'll drop Porsche Bristol on e-mail to see if the 3rd year was bought. It does bug me how Porsche don't offer 3 years as standard.

Porsche is an awesome brand and I don't mean that in a snobbery kind of way. The heritage and the sound of the engines is fantastic.

Has anyone ever had the minor service done / extended the warranty and then had an aftermarket exhaust.

Agreed the CR is awesome and on UK roads often wasted. I was thinking of next year bringing the CR to Mallorca. Anyone up for a Mallorca road trip haha.

Mate, drive it abroad and you'll keep her. I absolutely hate driving fast cars in the UK anymore and no longer see the point. Roads are too busy, to many jobs worths and elf and safety destroying the fun of driving.

Empty well tarmaced Spanish roads once or twice of the year and fast cars = the lost feeling of real enjoyment of driving of a performance vehicle.

Will do, that's what I'm thinking.

Another reason I wanted to post after such a long time was that if people keep seeing my car appear and disappear on PH classifieds they might think there is a problem.

Clearly there is not!! The problem is me haha.

Do you reckon in 2 years time that the CR would still be worth around 20K?

RRP in June 2011 was £54000 approx. I know you can't gauge exactly. I try and go off the price of cars that are 3 years old now and what they were new.

I asked the same question when buying my last 911. From what I understand, Porsche have a two-year warranty in Europe and three years as standard in the UK (Five years in the USA!). The third-year warranty is factored into the UK list price but is shown as a cost as is the top-tinted windscreen, full leather interior and PCM navigation (on my 991).

I was also told that if someone specifically doesn't want the third-year warranty then the list price would be discounted by the cost of the third-year, so those cars will be valued accordingly when they get sold on.

If the original owner of your Cayman R declined the third-year then he would have had the list price discounted by the cost of it. Worth asking OPC Bristol if that was the case.

Did I really just post that FOUR times?? Oh, it's great. Always tempted to over use it!

That's my problem, I don't get enough use. I just wish it was here in Mallorca now. The roads are a blast.

actually, part of the attractiveness of the CR is the ability to use it on UK roads. It is not overtly powerful such that it is difficult to enjoy at 5/10ths and in fact the low torque engine makes you work more to enjoy more as with all the non-turbo porsches. As you can see, I'm a great fan (yes, because I have one) but genuinely because it is sucha tactile machine that has a light touch re control weightings that you get focused on how nimble the car is, rather than anything else.

On the exhaust, have you considered using carnewal to decat the secondary cat (for more noise)? I have the PSE and even then, this is a mod I am contemplating.

Yup.

Puerto Pollensa to Lluc Monastery is a cracker or the Port de Soller road if there are no buses.

Agreed, I just need to get out more I think.

I have never head of the carnewal decat. I assume OPC wouldn't be able to see this visually or in the 111 Point check?
Would it sound any better, don't get me wrong the CR sounds good but no where near as good as Fabspeed.

Visually it would look the same but whether or not OPC would notice the louder sound it makes is an unknown. Normally, to affect your warranty, the manufacturer would have to prove that removing a secondary cat actually caused the problem. But I understand that few would want to risk a warranty dispute; I myself wouldn't. Hence I am looking at this post-warranty. If you want peace of mind, the PSE is the only solution (for now).

On sounds, apparently it is like your oem with the volume turned up. I do wonder how much the remus titanium exhaust costs though...

Remus Ti is too loud for me!

Fabspeed is a little more toned down from what I have watched on YouTube.
