Opening bonnet
Discussion
there should be a connection point in the fuse box for a positive jump lead. Negative to the door lock on the chassis.
Just hook up a spare battery or another car.
There's also a positive terminal lug in the engine bay if the switch for this opens it. It's on the right hand side under a black plastic flip cover.
There is a manual opener. It's a wire and can be fished out from under the headlight. Look in your manual. It's a pita to get hooked out though

Thanks only problem is handbook and charger both in front bonnet. Engine bay switch will open.
Is the negative just put on the door lock in the inside of the door rebate?
Gotcha.
negative to anything metal directly on the chassis. The striker for the door lock is nice and easy (the piece bolted to the B pillar, not the lock inside the door itself). If you aren't going to start the car, only get power you can attach earth/negative to the engine itself too.
Just flip the lid on the positive connection cover, it should reveal a terminal that looks kind of like a bolt. Positive terminal lead goes here.

Just tried engine bay release switch no power to that either. Is there any where else that the positive can be attached just so I can open the bonnet?

As said before inside the fusebox. Behind the cover where the spoiler manual switch is, red terminalnegative to anything metal directly on the chassis. that pulls out is your positive terminal
On 996´s there is a manual release pullwire concealed in the right hand wheel well. Jack up car, turn steering to full left and unscrew the black inner wheelarch shroud. Behind the radiator matrix there is the pullwire. My son locked the key in the boot when we were on holiday, many, many years ago.

All 996's?, OP appears to have a later model (Post 1999/2000 when the release changed from mechanicalto electrical)

Often wondered what I'd do if I dropped the key in the boot while on holiday(I often forget my second/template key) and closed it by accident(while the car was locked).
