Guys, need some help.

I thought i'd treat myself to a nice i-Pod Dock for the GT3 seen as it needed nothing for its Warranty Renewal. I had my first play with it today and to my utter disbelief, what they have charged me 440.00 for is nothing more than a bloody PM Modulator!

I called today to be told that, yes they will remove it, free of charge (it only plugs in to the 12v socket in the arm rest cubby!), but they cannot give my my money back as the Parts Department wont take it back.

Surely I am entitled to a full refund if the product is of a sub standard nature (i.e. it crackles like listening to a pirate radio station!)

I can't believe they think they can just say tough luck, we've sold you a piece of rubbish - deal with it!

Surely with a receipt they aren't in a position NOT to take it back, but what about the labour (160.00) ?

Any advice would be great !

There's nothing actually wrong with it though as far as I can gather, so yes, I think they are in a position not to take it back.

Sorry to say, but I thought it was common knowledge these were st? I certainly investigated it in my old Boxster and when I saw what I'd actually be getting for my money, I told them to shove it. Sorry, but I'm afraid I think you're stuck with it.

Jeez, I have a Griffin one of those, sounds like it works as well as yours and cost me about £35 from memory - robbing #%^*s!

Nsm; that's what's sticking in my throat. I feel like I've been shafted. I don't mind paying Porsche prices for quality (hence why I bought a Porsche in the first place!), but being palmed off with 2nd rate crap and being expected to accept it is another thing.

The fact that the think they can simply refuse a refund just because they don't want to is just plain arrogant!

Erm? Did you read my post?

I said it crackles like listening to a pirate radio station.

I should accept this should I?

I don't know how bad this crackling is, or how 'standard' it is - I assumed it's standard and that's all you get from Porsche. I'm not saying you should accept it, but I'm not necessarily sure they have to refund - all a bit subjective unless you want to fiddle about and post a vid on YouTube?

I'm pretty sure that any goods have to be of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose. You're going to have to stamp your feet and tell them that you are not accepting the goods as they are not as described. Demand a hard wired version be installed or your money back (but be ready for an argument).

Yeah - I think I'm going to have to put my foot down with this. It really is a joke though. Honestly if it was a crackly hifi, bought from Halfords, they wouldnt turn around and say they weren't taking it back so why Porsche have this attitude is beggars belief.

Why they expect customers who have clearly bought a high end car to accept utter tosh to be fitted is quite ignorant if I'm honest.

Anyway - we'll see how I get on tmr when they phone back. Thanks for the posts.

Oh - Merry Christmas btw smile

Go get em I say!

I reckon the crackling and general low quality should be the basis of your not fit for purpose argument.

MTR - see to be honest, the feeling of being shafted aside - if the thing worked and sounded like I would have expected (for a wired connection) I would have taken it on the chin, learned to ask more in the future, and gotten on with it. But it really is rubbish. You want to here it when a cd is playing, then switch to channel 0 on the radio - its average at the very best! And that's being generous!

It's listed as a hard wired fm modulator

The argument becomes what's an acceptable result for that description

Legally I think you have no chance

Goodwill is likely the only option

How can they describe it as hard wired if it is a transmitter through fm radio? Isn't that a contradiction in itself?

Hi Stevie

I'm not sure this is of any help but when I bought my car I had the iPod connection fitted, I'm not technical so not sure if its he same, but location of fitting is identical,

I play my iPhone or iPod through it.

When it was first installed I had the same issue, I complained and found when I plugged it in, it wasn't tuned to the or correct frequency. Once it was the sound was perfectly clear and I have no complaints.

Hope this helps

I believe the wire from the dock is attached, somewhere, to the antenna - so it is hard wired, but still just an FM signal. Sounds like R1 may have a solution though.

Ref the comment about IPod interface with PCM 1&2, my PCM 2.1 works with my IPhone very well. I use a MoBridge unit and although after initial man's inability to read user manuals I've got it to work well! Music and phone can either be Bluetooth'ed or hardwired to the PCM interface. But then if your talking something from Porsche then I would also expect to same level of comparability as MoBridge I suppose.

exactly that

the signal is modulated onto an FM frequency signal but rather than being broadcast its sent down a cable which plugs into the aerial connector on the PCM

theres supposed to be an intelligent switch so that the PCM is either connected to this or the normal aerial depending on what you using

It will never be CD quality but should be as good as a good FM Radio signal

yepmobridge or Dension do adaptors that will allow you to use the an IPOD/IPhone with teh PCM but the interface is somewaht restrictive

best bet is replace the PCM with something better

in which case what he has with the modulator is the only choice

Or burn your music as MP3's onto cd's and you'll have decent quality music albeit a few cd's in the car.

Frankly the Porsche PCM 2 unit and their attitude towards owners trying to achieve up to date ICE are both ste.
