Hello everyone!
I'm new to the Porsche forum but am a long term pistonheads member. I've been looking today at a 2009 997 Carerra S and just wanted to get some feedback on a couple of points from the experts here!
So I looked at a car today with 46k, registered Mar 2009 - and it's had the recall done for the fuel pump on the new DFI engine. It drove very well but I could smell the engine (hot oil smell) after a 15 min run that I didn't really push it on. Is that normal from cold on these engines? I also found that the front lip of the bonnet didn't sit in line with the front bumper but slightly below - is this normal or does it reflect a bonnet that has been fitted incorrectly?
Appreciate any feedback and any other advice you might have on purchasing the car.
Best Regards

Don't worry about the recall work, see it as a positive. As for other stuff, has it had a recent service? If so it could be some stray oil on the manifold but that's one of a few possibilities of which there are worse. As for the bonnet lid, you can again think the person who owned it before was built like a brick sh!t house and used the boot every day, sitting on it to get it shut.......or again it could be worse. If it doesn't feel right then unless you get told for definite otherwise, walk away, there are loads around that are good. Another factor is where your getting it from, OPC and they will (should!) sort out problems!
Aside from what everyone else had said, look out for things that need doing as it's three years old e.g. tyres, brakes, service - is it from an OPC? If not, what (if any) warranty do you get? To get the OPC one you need their 111 point check which may or may not be free depending on what else you're getting done at the time.
It should be a good quick car, does it have Sports Chrono?

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the really helpful responses - sounds like all the engines smell a bit after a run!
It's from an independent not an OPC, but does come with a standard 6 month warranty. It doesn't have the sport chrono pack and seems clean but not immaculate - odd small scratch on door sill, back of seat etc etc. Asking 40k.
The bonnet line seemed uneven at the front, but it may have only been mm out and that does seem to be normal by the sounds of it. It will be 4 years old next march so will be due it's inspection then. Do you think it's worth sticking to a model from an OPC?
Thanks!

I've sent you a PM about my old 2009 Gen.2 997 C2S which is for sale at Sarah Cox Cars in Nottingham, a great specced car at a good price if you're willing to travel.
Good Luck.
If nothing else, I'd compare it to the OPC prices remembering they include the two year warranty which is c. £2,400 to buy separately and it should have just had a reasonably comprehensive check (if it was me I'd have a non OPC car checked out).
There are many threads on here about the robustness and pros and cons of different warranties and what they offer so worth being knowledgeable about them beforehand.
That said, the DFI engine seems to be very robust, I've not read or heard of any unexpected major problems with it.
The Sports Chrono is probably a nice to have (but good fun occasionally), but there are plenty cars available - look around and make sure you get all the options you would like to start with...
